NEW YORK – UConn sophomore forward Sarah Strong recorded her fifth BIG EAST Player of the Week honor of the season. Seton Hall freshman guard Zahara Bishop earned her first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. 

Georgetown sophomore guard Destiny Agubata, Providence graduate student guard Sabou Gueye, St. John’s sophomore forward Sa’Mya Wyatt, Seton Hall junior guard Savannah Catalon, and Xavier junior guard Mariah Noel were named to this week’s honor roll.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Sarah Strong, UConn, So., F
Strong paced the Huskies with 24 points, nine rebounds, four assists, five blocks, and three steals in 27 minutes of action in the 99-50 win over Villanova. She leads the team averaging 18.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 3.7 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game this season.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Zahara Bishop, Seton Hall, Fr., G
Bishop averaged 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a pair of wins over Marquette (64-61) and DePaul (86-77). Bishop erupted for a career-high 21 points on an efficient 8-for-10 shooting from the floor, which included 3-for-4 shooting from three-point range, versus the Blue Demons. Earlier in the week, she had seven points, seven rebounds and three assists against Marquette.

Destiny Agubata, Georgetown, So., G

Agubata averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals in the 2-0 week against St. John’s and Marquette. She led the Hoyas past St. John's with 15 points and four rebounds, as well as four assists. In the 63-54 win at Marquette, she had an all-around performance with 13 points while posting her second-career double-double with a team-high 10 boards. Agubata also led the team in assists (5) and steals (3), marking the first win over Marquette since the 2017-18 season and the first win in Milwaukee since the 2011-12 campaign.
 
Sabou Gueye, Providence, Gr., G
Gueye averaged 22.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game, while shooting 58.3 percent from the field (21-for-36) in a 1-1 week against Butler and Creighton. She recorded back-to-back 20+ point games for the second time this season and the first time during BIG EAST play, while eight of her team-best 15 rebounds for the week came off the offensive glass.
 
Sa’Mya Wyatt, St. John’s, So., F
Wyatt recorded 13 rebounds, tying her career-high and accounting for half of the team’s total boards, while chipping in two assists and a steal while shooting 100% (2-2) from the line at Georgetown. The sophomore forward netted a career-high 28 points to pace the Johnnies while tallying six rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal, while shooting 66.7% (10-15) from the field and not missing a single shot from three (2-2) or the free throw line (6-6) in the 66-64 win over Xavier.
 
Savannah Catalon, Seton Hall, Jr., G
Catalon led Seton Hall with 18.0 points per game last week and was a perfect 20-for-20 from the free-throw line in wins over Marquette (64-61) and DePaul (86-77). In Wednesday’s victory over Marquette, Catalon had 12 points, three rebounds, two steals, was 10-for-10 from the line, and drew 10 fouls. On Sunday, she had a team-high 24 points on the strength of 4-for-9 shooting from three-point range and was again 10-for-10 from the free-throw line. The Pirates have now won three in a row and five of their last six games.
 
Mariyah Noel, Xavier, Jr., G
Noel averaged 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game last week as Xavier went 1-1. She posted a .517 field-goal percentage (15-for-29) and went 13-for-15 from the foul line. Noel had 16 points and three rebounds in the 71-61 win over DePaul, followed by 30 points and nine rebounds versus St. John’s on Saturday. She is the first Xavier player to score 30 or more points in a game since Raeshaun Gaffney scored 33 points in 2017.
