BIG EAST WBB Minute: Marquette, St. John’s and Villanova Record New Year’s Day Victories; Seton Hall at #1 UConn on Saturday

Villanova was led by Kennedy Henry with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals. Jasmine Bascoe (15), Ryanne Allen (14) and Denae Carter (10) rounded out the double-digit scorers from Villanova. Creighton’s Neleigh Gessert scored a team-leading 25 points, powered by seven 3-pointers. Kennedy Townsend had 19 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field. Kendall McGee finished with a career-high 14 points on .500 shooting, to go with three rebounds, five assists and two steals. 
 
Marquette 67 at Xavier 54
Box Score
Marquette’s Halle Vice registered 20 points and a career-high 19 rebounds for her third double-double in the last five games, along with a career-high tying five assists. Lee Volker was one rebound shy of a double-double as she scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds. The Golden Eagles held Xavier to 1-for-10 shooting from the field during the last five and a half minutes of the game. Mariyah Noel recorded her fourth 22-point performance this season for the Musketeers. Meri Kanerva and Vivien Nejašmic both scored 13 points each, while Kanerva added a game-high seven assists. Xavier scored 25 points in the third quarter, with 13 from Noel.
 
at St. John’s 75, DePaul 58

St. John’s had four players score 11 points – Beautiful Waheed, Shaulana Wagner, Sa’Mya Wyatt and Daniela Abies. Waheed also had five rebounds, three assists, four blocks and four steals. The team shot 58.3% from field goal range. St. John’s outscored DePaul, 26-8, in the third quarter. Alayna West had a team-high 14 points and six rebounds, three assists and two steals for DePaul. Michelle Ojo scored 12 points for her fourth double-digit outing this season, while Kate Novik added 10 points. With nine points from West, the Blue Demons outscored the Johnnies 23-18 in the fourth quarter.

There are no BIG EAST games on Friday, January 2. Play returns on Saturday, January 3, with Seton Hall facing #1 UConn. Tip is scheduled for noon on FS1, with Krista Blunk and Kim Adams calling the game. UConn leads the all-time series 61-10, including a 29-4 advantage at home. The Huskies are averaging 90.1 points per game, ranking ninth in the nation. Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong are leading both UConn and the BIG EAST, scoring over 18 points per game. KK Arnold ranks second in the nation in assist-turnover ratio (4.69). Seton Hall recently set a program record for the largest margin of victory in a BIG EAST game (45) during its 81-36 win over Georgetown. The Pirates are led by Savannah Catalon, who is averaging 14.3 points, 2.4 offensive rebounds, and 3.2 steals per game.

BIG EAST to Provide Public Availability Reports for Men's and Women's Basketball
Beginning in 2025-26, the BIG EAST Conference will provide public reports on the availability of student-athletes in conference games in the sports of men's and women's basketball. BIG EAST schools will be required to submit availability reports three hours before the scheduled tipoff time.  Under the reporting structure, players will be designated as "questionable" or "out."  Availability reports will be posted on the BIG EAST website throughout the 2025-26 season. Women's Basketball Availability Reports
