BIG EAST WBB Minute: Butler, Marquette Victorious; UConn at Georgetown Thursday Night

In a back-and-forth affair, Marquette’s defense stepped up with Skylar Forbes contesting a turnaround jumper and coming up with a steal to secure a 56-55 win on the road. Forbes (12 points) and Lee Volker (11 points) led the Golden Eagles in double digits, while Brooke Moore led the Johnnies with 16 points. After not leading in the first quarter, St. John’s began the second quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 20-15 lead. The Red Storm led at the break 30-27. St. John’s pulled ahead by 7 in the third quarter, before an 8-2 run by the Golden Eagles cut the deficit to one, 40-39, with 10 to play. The Red Storm jumped back out to a four-point lead two minutes into the fourth following a 3-pointer from Brooke Moore. Attacking the paint, MU scored six straight to grab the lead with 6:27 to play, its first lead in 17 minutes. Tied at 55-55, MU’s Olivia Porter got sent to the line with 22 seconds left and split a pair of free throws to secure the 56-55 victory.
 
at Butler 73, DePaul 67

Butler’s Saniya Jackson poured in a career-high 22 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 73-67 home win over DePaul on Wednesday night. The redshirt sophomore registered her first career double-double, piling on 10 rebounds and shooting an efficient 7-for-10 from the field. A quartet of Blue Demons scored double figures, led by Michelle Ojo (12) and Ally Timm (12). The Bulldogs enjoyed a 6-0 run out of the first media timeout to take a 20-12 lead into the second frame. Trading runs in the second, Butler maintained a 31-27 lead at the half, as Jackson tallied nine points in the opening 20 minutes. Trailing by 10 toward the end of the third quarter, DePaul held Butler scoreless over the final two minutes to cut the deficit to four (47-43) with 10 to play.

BIG EAST Announces Women’s Basketball Schedule Adjustment??
Due to incoming inclement weather, this weekend’s UConn-Seton Hall game has been moved to Saturday, January 24, at noon. The game was previously scheduled for Sunday, January 25, at noon. The contest will be aired on Peacock and NBCSN.
 
BIG EAST to Provide Public Availability Reports for Men's and Women's Basketball
Beginning in the 2025-26 season, the BIG EAST Conference will provide public reports on the availability of student-athletes in conference games for the sports of men's and women's basketball. BIG EAST schools will be required to submit availability reports three hours before the scheduled tipoff time.  Under the reporting structure, players will be designated as "questionable" or "out."  Availability reports will be posted on the BIG EAST website throughout the 2025-26 season. Women's Basketball Availability Reports
