#BIGEASTwbb Weekly Honors (1.26.26): UConn Sweeps Weekly Laurels

NEW YORK – UConn sophomore forward Sarah Strong recorded her second straight and sixth BIG EAST Player of the Week honor of the season. Husky teammate forward Blanca Quiñonez earned her seventh BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. This is the sixth time this season that UConn swept the weekly awards.

Butler redshirt sophomore guard Saniya Jackson, Creighton guard forward Grace Boffeli, Georgetown graduate student forward Brianna Scott, St. John’s junior guard Brooke Moore, and Seton Hall graduate student center Mariana Valenzuela were named to this week’s honor roll.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Sarah Strong, UConn, So., F
Strong averaged 20.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals in a 3-0 week against Notre Dame, Georgetown, and Seton Hall. Started the week with 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting and 11 rebounds in the 89-47 victory over Notre Dame. She then scored 25 points on 10-for-17 shooting with eight rebounds, five assists and five steals in the 83-42 win at Georgetown. Strong rounded out the week with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists at Seton Hall (W, 93-52).

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Blanca Quiñonez, UConn, F, Fr.
Quiñonez averaged 10.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists in three wins over Notre Dame, Georgetown and Seton Hall. She scored 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting, to go with five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the 93-52 road win at Seton Hall on Saturday.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Saniya Jackson, Butler, R-So., G

Jackson poured in a career-high 22 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 73-67 home win over DePaul on Wednesday night. The redshirt sophomore registered her first career double-double, piling on 10 rebounds and shooting an efficient 7-for-10 from the field. She ended the week with 12 points and nine boards against St. John’s.
 
Grace Boffeli, Creighton, Gr., F
Boffeli recorded her fifth double-double of the season with a game-high 18 points and a season-high 15 rebounds in Creighton’s 82-64 win versus Xavier. She then had 12 points and 10 rebounds against DePaul.
 
Brianna Scott, Georgetown, Gr., F
Scott averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 block and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week. She recorded a season-high 21 points and a game-high eight rebounds, to go with three assists, three steals and two blocks in the 65-52 win at Xavier. 
 
Brooke Moore, St. John’s, Jr., G
Moore totaled 16 points, four boards, three steals and blocked two shots in the outing against Marquette. She then led the squad to the 23-point victory over Villanova with 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal.
 
Mariana Valenzuela, Seton Hall, Gr., C
Valenzuela led the Pirates with 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week against Providence and UConn. In the 73-57 victory over Providence, Valenzuela had 15 points on the strength of three made three-pointers and added a team-high eight rebounds. Against the #1 Huskies, she had game-highs of 18 points and eight rebounds, including the first six points of the game.
