BIG EAST WBB Minute: Villanova Improves to 9-3 in League Play; Three Games Wednesday Night

Jasmine Bascoe led Villanova with 22 points, six assists and two steals. Kennedy Henry went 4-for-8 from deep to finish with 16 points, while Brynn McCurry added 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the field, to go with six rebounds and five assists. The Wildcats tied their season-high with 15 three-point field goals. Providence’s Sabou Gueye led the team in points (22), rebounds (6) and assists (5). Teneisia Brown chipped in 14 points off the bench for the Friars. With the win, Villanova completes the regular-season series sweep.
 
UConn Duo Named to Naismith Defensive POTY Watch List
KK Arnold and Sarah Strong were named to the 2026 Naismith Women’s College Defensive Player of the Year Watch List, announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Tuesday. UConn is one of two teams with multiple players on the 25-member watch list. Arnold ranks third nationally with a 4.45 assist-to-turnover ratio and is second on the team and third in the BIG EAST with 54 steals. Strong leads the Huskies in rebounds (172), blocks (34), and steals (76). She ranks fifth in the nation in steals and ninth in steals per game (3.62), both leading the conference. As a team, UConn allows just 51.0 points per game, leading the BIG EAST and ranking second in the country in scoring defense. They also rank in the top 10 nationally in steals per game (15.7, 4th), field goal percentage defense (33.5, 5th), and turnovers forced per game (25.0, 7th).

BIG EAST to Provide Public Availability Reports for Men's and Women's Basketball
Beginning in the 2025-26 season, the BIG EAST Conference will provide public reports on the availability of student-athletes in conference games for men's and women's basketball. BIG EAST schools will be required to submit these reports three hours before the scheduled tipoff. Under this reporting system, players will be designated as "questionable" or "out.” Availability reports will be posted on the BIG EAST website throughout the 2025-26 season.
