BIG EAST WBB Minute: Creighton, Providence, Xavier Pickup Wins; Vice Scores Career-High in Victory

at Marquette 85, Villanova 69

Marquette’s Halle Vice poured in a career-high 32 points and had 11 rebounds for her fourth-straight double-double and fifth in six games. Jaidynn Mason and Skylar Forbes chipped in 20 points each as the Golden Eagles snapped Villanova’s 10-game winning streak. Forbes added eight boards to her fourth double-digit performance, and Mason recorded a season-high tying seven assists. The team shot .611 from beyond the arc, Marquette’s second-highest percentage this season. Jasmine Bascoe led the Wildcats with 20 points, followed by Kennedy Henry with 15 points and Dani Ceseretti with 12. Henry added a game-high five steals to her stat line. Villanova had three players dish four assists each – Bascoe, Ceseretti and Brynn McCurry.
 
Xavier 52 at Georgetown 51

Meri Kanerva finished with 14 points, four rebounds, seven assists and two steals for Xavier. Petra Oborilova scored 12 points, all from beyond the arc. Savannah White pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Khia Miller led Georgetown with 18 points, while Destiny Agubata added 12 points, six rebounds and three steals. Cristen Carter grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds as the Hoyas outrebounded Xavier, 43-37. Despite Georgetown being down by nine just seconds into the fourth quarter, the Hoyas battled back to take a 49-48 lead with 58 seconds left on the clock. The teams traded leads two more times until Kanerva hit the game-winning basket for the Musketeers with 6.5 seconds left. The win at Georgetown snapped a 30-game BIG EAST road losing streak, as it was Xavier's first road conference victory since Feb. 20, 2022.
 
at Creighton 67, Butler 59 
Box Score
Kennedy Townsend netted 16 points on a .556/.800/1.000 shooting mark, to go with eight boards, two assists, two blocks, and three steals for Creighton. Grace Bofelli also scored 16 points on 60% shooting from the field, while Kendall McGee had a season-high 15 points, with four assists and three steals. Despite only scoring nine points in the first frame, the Bluejays outscored Butler the rest of the way. Butler had three double-digit scorers – Saniya Jackson (17), Mallory Miller (15) and Addison Baxter (14). Butler came within three points early in the fourth (47-44), but Creighton went 14-for-18 from the charity stripe to help seal the win. 
 
Providence 69 at DePaul 59 
Box Score
Providence’s Orlagh Gormley’s stat line included 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and nine steals to help the Friars overcome a 19-point deficit. Sabou Gueye (17), Teneisia Brown (12) and Sophi Hall (11) also scored double figures. Gina Davorija paced DePaul with 13 points as she connected on a career-high three 3-pointers. Meg Newman led the team in rebounds (10), assists (3) and steals (2). The Blue Demons opened the game 7-for-10 from deep.
