NEW YORK – Marquette junior guard Halle Vice averaged 21.7 points, 13.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals in a 2-1 week, earning her the BIG EAST Player of the Week honor. Villanova freshman guard Kennedy Henry nabbed her first freshman of the week honor this season.
Creighton senior guard Kennedy Townsend, UConn sophomore forward Sarah Strong, Providence graduate student guard Sabou Gueye, Villanova sophomore guard Jasmine Bascoe, and Xavier sophomore guard Meri Kanerva were named to this week’s honor roll.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Halle Vice, Marquette, Jr., G
Vice averaged 21.7 points, 13.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game in leading Marquette to a 2-1 record last week. Vice is the first Golden Eagle to record a double-double in three straight games since Liza Karlen in 2022. In the 85-69 win over Villanova, the junior scored a career-high 32 points, 22 of which came in the first half. She recorded 20 points, 19 rebounds and a career-high tying five assists in the 67-54 victory at Xavier. Vice’s 19 rebounds were the most by a Golden Eagle since Frannie Hottinger grabbed 21 against Appalachian State in 2023.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Kennedy Henry, Villanova, Fr., G
Henry averaged 15.0 points, 2.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.0 steals, and 1.6 blocks in a 2-1 week for the Wildcats. In the 74-64 win over Creighton, the freshman scored a career-high 19 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from deep. She added six rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks in the win.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Kennedy Townsend, Creighton, Sr., G
Townsend averaged 17.5 points on a .542/.583/1.000 shooting split, and 6.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week against Villanova and Butler. Kennedy registered back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts with 19 points at Villanova and 16 points, along with eight rebounds in the 67-59 win over Butler. Townsend flipped the game in Creighton’s favor with eight straight points in the second quarter versus the Bulldogs.
Sarah Strong, UConn, So., F
Strong led the Huskies with 17.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game in two wins over Providence and Seton Hall. She finished the week with a .571/.727/1.000 shooting split. The sophomore opened the week with 17 points on the strength of five 3-pointers, with seven rebounds and three steals as the team defeated Providence, 90-53. Strong then had 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 shooting from deep, to go with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals on the 84-48 win versus Seton Hall.
Sabou Gueye, Providence, Gr., G
Gueye 14.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 50-percent from the field. She started the week with 12 points, two rebounds and four steals versus UConn. She then scored 17 points and had three rebounds, five assists and one steal in the team’s first-ever victory in Chicago. Ten of her 17 points came in a decisive second half to help Friars overcome a 19-point deficit
Jasmine Bascoe, Villanova, So., G
Bascoe averaged 13.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 2-1 week for the Wildcats. In the 74-64 win over the Bluejays, the sophomore scored 15 points and dished six assists. She ended the week with 20 points, three rebounds and four assists at Marquette.
Meri Kanerva, Xavier, So., G
Kanerva averaged 13.5 points, 7.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Musketeers. She scored 14 points (all in the second half) in the win at Georgetown, including the game-winning basket with 6.5 seconds left in regulation. The sophomore added a game-high seven assists versus the Hoyas.
