15-0 Huskies
With a 15-0 record, the No. 1 UConn Huskies are off to their best start since the 2017-18 season. The Huskies recently defeated Seton Hall, 84-48, with four players scoring double figures. The win marked UConn’s 31st straight victory. Sarah Strong leads the Huskies, averaging 18 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. Strong is shooting 58.4 percent from the field, 42.6 percent from three and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. Azzi Fudd is averaging a .493/.485/1.000 shooting split, with her .485 three-point percentage mark ranking sixth in the nation. UConn is 4-0 against nationally ranked teams with wins over Louisville, Michigan, USC and Iowa. The team’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 7, when they host St. John’s at 7:30 p.m. on truTV.

Vice is Nice
Marquette junior guard Halle Vice was unstoppable last week as she recorded three straight double-doubles, becoming the first Golden Eagle to do so since Liza Karlen in 2022. Vice averaged 21.7 points, 13.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game to lead Marquette to a 2-1 record last week. In the 85-69 win over Villanova, the junior scored a career-high 32 points, 22 of which came in the first half. Her 32 points were the most by a Marquette player since Selena Lott scored 34 in 2020 versus St. John’s. She recorded 20 points, 19 rebounds and a career-high tying five assists in the 67-54 victory at Xavier. Vice became just the third player in the past two seasons nationally to record at least 20 points, 19 rebounds and five assists in a game. Her 19 rebounds were the most by a Golden Eagle since Frannie Hottinger grabbed 21 against Appalachian State in 2023.

Gessert From Deep
Creighton freshman Neleigh Gessert is leading all BIG EAST freshmen with a .403 three-point percentage, good for third among conference players this season. She has connected on seven 3-pointers in two games this season against Northern Arizona and Villanova to move her into seventh place all-time at Creighton for single-game made three-point field goals. She has joined Oklahoma's Aaliyah Chavez as the only women's basketball players from a Power Five conference with multiple games of seven or more 3-pointersthis season. The freshman is tied for sixth among NCAA DI players with 48 made shots from beyond the arc. She has recorded 10 double-digit scoring performances, including three 25-point games.
