Three Teams Earn BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Weekly Honors

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Remi Agunbiade, Akron, Jr., F (Toronto, Ontario)
Agunbiade accounted for both goals in Akron’s 2-0 road victory over DePaul, finishing with four points on four shots. The junior opened the scoring with the eventual game-winner before adding his second goal of the match to secure the Zips’ conference victory. It marked Akron’s first multi-goal performance by an individual this season.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Ekene Okeke, Xavier, Sr., D (Houston, Texas)
Okeke helped anchor Xavier’s defense in a 3-0 shutout victory over Marquette, playing 87 minutes while also contributing a goal in the 50th minute. The Musketeers limited the Golden Eagles to seven total shots as Xavier earned its third consecutive shutout victory.
 
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Jonny Mennell, Xavier, Gr., GK (Asheville, N.C.)
Mennell made five saves and did not allow a goal across 90 minutes as Xavier blanked Marquette, 3-0. His five saves were the most by a BIG EAST goalkeeper who recorded a shutout during the week.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Terrance Reynolds, Georgetown, Fr., M (Brentwood, Tenn.)
Reynolds recorded his first collegiate goal and added an assist for three points in Georgetown’s 6-1 victory over Providence. The freshman was one of eight Hoyas to record a point as Georgetown erupted for six goals and 20 total points in the conference win.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Matthew Reed, Creighton, Sr., D (Felton, Del.)
Reed led all BIG EAST players with five points during the week, recording two goals and an assist across Creighton’s two matches. He tallied a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win at Omaha before scoring the equalizer in a 1-1 draw against St. John’s.
 
Matthew Van Horn, Georgetown, Sr., M (North Pole, Alaska)
Van Horn scored twice in Georgetown’s 6-1 victory over Providence, finishing with four points as the Hoyas remained unbeaten in BIG EAST play. His two goals tied for the most by a BIG EAST player during the week.
 
Travis Thompson, St. John’s, Jr., M/F (Garden City, N.Y.)
Thompson scored St. John’s lone goal as the Red Storm earned a 1-1 road draw at Creighton. The junior gave St. John’s the lead before the Bluejays answered in the second half.
 
Alex Yagudayev, Villanova, Jr., GK (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Yagudayev turned away a league-high 14 shots in Villanova’s narrow 1-0 setback against UConn. The junior allowed just one goal despite facing 25 shots, finishing the match with a .933 save percentage.
 
Gun Ha Lee, Xavier, Sr., F (Daegu, South Korea)
Ha Lee recorded a goal and an assist for three points in Xavier’s 3-0 victory over Marquette. The senior scored the game-winning goal and added an assist while helping the Musketeers secure a conference shutout victory.
