Three Teams Split BIG EAST Volleyball Weekly Honors (10.05.26)

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Carson Tyler, Jr. OH, Marquette
Marquette led the Golden Eagles to a 1-1 week highlighted by a five-set victory over Creighton to end the Bluejays’ 50-game conference winning streak. The junior led the league with 5.10 kills and 6.15 points per set while tacking on 23 digs, eight aces, four blocks, and three assists. In a five-set setback to DePaul, the junior registered a career-high 30 kills on .357 hitting with six digs, four blocks, and an ace. Against Creighton, Tyler logged a double-double of 21 kills and 17 digs while serving a career-high seven aces.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Rashanny Solano Smith, Sr., L, St. John’s
Solano Smith anchored the Red Storm’s defense to an unblemished 2-0 week, recording a league-leading 5.56 digs per set. Against Xavier (W, 3-2), she picked up 28 digs and dished out six assists. Versus Butler (W, 3-1), the senior tallied 22 digs with five assists and an ace.

BIG EAST Setter of the Week
Leonor Polezzi, Sr., S, DePaul
Polezzi powered the Blue Demons offense to a 1-1 week headlined by a 3-2 victory over Marquette – the program’s first win over the Golden Eagles since 2008 and the squad’s first 3-0 start in BIG EAST play. Against the Golden Eagles, the senior delivered a season-high 49 assists with 16 digs, three aces, and three block assists. In a setback to Creighton (1-3) on Friday, Polezzi contributed 34 assists, 11 digs, and three aces.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Carola Tesoro, Fr., OH, St. John’s
Tesoro continued a standout rookie campaign, averaging 3.78 kills and 4.39 points per set in a 2-0 week. Against Xavier (W, 3-2), the rookie registered an 18-kill, 11-dig double-double. Versus Butler (W, 3-1), she logged a match-best 16 kills with seven digs and two aces.

Honor Roll
Isabela Tavares Salomon, So., RS, DePaul
Tavares Salomon averaged 3.56 kills per set on .328 hitting in outings against Marquette and Creighton. Versus the Golden Eagles, the sophomore matched her career-high with 20 kills on .405 hitting.
Luanna Markus, Fr., S, Marquette
Markus led the Golden Eagles to a 1-1 week including a five-set loss to DePaul before a 3-2 victory over Creighton. She totaled 90 assists with 21 digs, seven blocks, and four kills. She posted a 43-assist, 13-dig double-double in the win over Creighton.
Campbell McKinnon, Jr., MB, Villanova
McKinnon powered Villanova’s offense to a pair of sweeps against Providence and UConn, averaging 4.33 kills per set on .227 hitting.
Macy Hatkevich, Sr., S, Xavier
Hatkevich led the league with 12.11 assists per frame, setting Xavier to .268 hitting. In a 3-1 victory over Seton Hall, she dished out a career-high 60 assists. Against St. John’s (L, 2-3), she recorded 49 assists, 11 digs, and three blocks.
Ava Tilden, So., OH, Xavier
Tilden ranked second in the BIG EAST this week, averaging 4.44 kills per set on .400 hitting. She contributed a career-high 20 kills against both St. John’s and Seton Hall, highlighted by a .485 hitting percentage versus the Pirates.
