NEW YORK – UConn graduate student guard Azzi Fudd collected her second straight BIG EAST Player of the Week honor. Seton Hall freshman guard Zahara Bishop earned her second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Marquette junior forward Skylar Forbes, Providence graduate student guard Sabou Gueye, St. John's sophomore forward Sa'Mya Wyatt, Seton Hall's sophomore guard Ja'Kahla Craft, and Villanova's sophomore guard Jasmine Bascoe were named to this week's honor roll.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Azzi Fudd, UConn, Gr., G
Fudd averaged 22.0 points while shooting 54.5% from the field and 66.7% from three in wins against Creighton (94-44) and Marquette (71-56). She scored 19 points and shot .615/.750 versus Creighton, to go with four rebounds, four assists and two steals. She finished the week with 25 points on .500/.625 shooting at Marquette with four steals.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Zahara Bishop, Seton Hall, Fr., G
Bishop continued her strong freshman season in a pair of Seton Hall victories last week, averaging 13.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. The guard came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points in just under 21 minutes in the Pirates' 70-58 victory at Marquette. She was 6-for-9 from the floor, which included 2-for-3 from three-point range, and pulled down six rebounds. In Saturday's 96-72 win over DePaul, she added seven points.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Skylar Forbes, Marquette, Jr., F
Forbes averaged 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 assists per game last week in games against Seton Hall (W, 64-56) and UConn (L, 71-56). She scored a team-high 17 points against the Pirates and had 14 points versus UConn, as she helped Marquette hold the Huskies to their fewest points of the season (71).
Sabou Gueye, Providence, Gr., G
Gueye helped guide the Friars to back-to-back BIG EAST wins for the first time this season, averaging 18.0 points on 50-percent shooting (13-26) from the field and 91-percent shooting from the free-throw line (10-11).
Sa'Mya Wyatt, St. John's, So., F
Wyatt was a leader for St. John's in both games on the week. The Powder Springs, Ga. native recorded 16 points, the second most on the team, six rebounds, three assists, a block, a steal and shot 7-for-13 (53.8%) from the field at DePaul. The sophomore forward paced the Johnnies with 12 points while tallying five rebounds, two assists, and going 6-for-6 (100%) from the line in the 58-47 win over Butler.
Ja'Kahla Craft, Seton Hall, So., G/F
Craft led Seton Hall with 16.5 points per game and pulled down 7.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. On Wednesday at Marquette, Craft had seven points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in a 12-point road victory. On Saturday versus DePaul, Craft had one of the best scoring performances in Seton Hall history. She played a perfect game, breaking Seton Hall's single-game record for efficiency with a minimum of 10 attempts by going 11-for-11 from the field, including 4-for-4 from three-point range. She finished with a game-high 26 points, which doubled her previous career-high in scoring. She also had four rebounds in the all-time performance.
Jasmine Bascoe, Villanova, So., G
Bascoe averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in two road wins at Xavier and Creighton. In the 74-64 victory against the Bluejays, she recorded 21 points, marking the 11th time she has scored 20 or more points this season. She also had seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
