BIG EAST WBB Minute: St. John’s, UConn, DePaul and Villanova All Nab Wins

at #1 UConn 81, Providence 38

Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong led UConn with 13 points apiece, while Allie Ziebell added 11 points on the strength of three three-pointers. Ashlynn Shade had 10 points, five rebounds and five steals. KK Arnold finished with a career-high 10 assists, a season-high eight steals and eight points. The Huskies forced 39 turnovers, tying the single-game program record. Providence’s Princess Moody scored 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field, including 3-for-3 from deep. Payton Dunbar chipped in nine points while Orlagh Gormley had five points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

St. John’s 59 at Seton Hall 56

Daniela Abies paced the Johnnies with 12 points on 50% shooting and a season-high 19 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Shaulana Wagner had 12 points, six rebounds and a team-high five assists as St. John’s recorded its first season sweep of Seton Hall since the 2019-20 season. Seton Hall had three players score double digits – Jordana Codio (14), Savannah Catalon (10) and Ari Woodard (10). Catalon added five rebounds, three assists and four steals to her stat line. The game was back-and-forth, with 12 lead changes and 10 ties. Seton Hall had a 56-55 lead with one minute left in the game. Wagner was sent to the line and made both free throws for a 57-56 advantage with 34 seconds remaining. Jailah Donald then went 1-for-1 at the line, increasing St. John’s lead to 58-56. Abies secured the 59-56 win with a made free throw with under 10 seconds left. 

at DePaul 76, Xavier 67

Kate Novik did a bit of everything for DePaul, finishing with 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Michelle Ojo posted her 10th game scoring double digits this season with 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field. The Blue Demons converted 15 Xavier turnovers into 26 points. DePaul went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe over the last 30 seconds of the game. MacKenzie Givens poured in a game-high 22 points, to go with six steals for Xavier. Meri Kanerva scored 14 points and dished a game-high six assists. Savannah White registered 11 rebounds for her eighth game this season, pulling down double-figure boards.

at Villanova 64, Marquette 39 
Box Score
Villanova’s Jasmine Bascoe tallied a game-high 18 points and seven assists. Denae Carter’s stat line included 14 points on 50% shooting, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. Kennedy Henry rounded out the Wildcat’s double-digit scorers with 13 points. Lee Volker was the lone Golden Eagle in double figures with 11 points. Halle Vice was one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
