NEW YORK – UConn graduate student guard Azzi Fudd collected her third BIG EAST Player of the Week honor of the season. Creighton freshman forward Ava Zediker earned her second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Creighton graduate student forward Grace Boffeli, Marquette junior forward Skylar Forbes, Providence graduate student guard Sabou Gueye, St. John’s sophomore forward Sa'Mya Wyatt, and Villanova sophomore guard Jasmine Bascoewere named to this week’s honor roll.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Azzi Fudd, UConn, Gr., G
Fudd averaged 21.0 points on a .516/.545/.800 shooting split, to go with 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals in two wins over DePaul and Butler. Fudd scored 25 points on 10-for-17 shooting, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc in the 86-40 triumph at DePaul. She finished the week with 17 points, four assists and three steals in the 80-49 victory versus the Bulldogs.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Ava Zediker, Creighton, Fr., G
Zediker was a driving force for Creighton as she averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists to lift the Bluejays to victories over Georgetown (64-62) and Marquette (80-74). She took over in the second half against the Golden Eagles with 15 of her 25 points to help force overtime. In the extra session, Zediker dished out three assists to secure the win. Versus Georgetown, she delivered all 11 of her points in the third quarter to help Creighton fight off a Hoyas charge. She closed the two games shooting 12-of-24 (50.0%) from the field and went 5-for-6 (83.3%) from beyond the arc.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Grace Boffeli, Creighton, Gr., F
Boffeli was dominant, averaging 16.0 points and 15.5 rebounds in a pair of wins over Georgetown and Marquette this week. In the 64-62 victory at Georgetown, Boffeli grabbed 17 rebounds and delivered the game-winning basket in the closing seconds. In Sunday’s 80-74 win over Marquette, she posted her seventh double-double of the season with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Boffeli accounted for nine of the Bluejays’ 13 in overtime and delivered 15 points and nine rebounds during the fourth quarter and extra session. Grace closed the two games shooting 13-of-22 (59.1%).
Skylar Forbes, Marquette, Jr., F
Forbes averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block per game last week against Providence (W, 78-61) and Creighton (L, 74-80). Forbes broke out for a team-high 22 points on 8-for-15 shooting in the win over the Friars. She scored 18 of Marquette’s 34 second-half points to help the Golden Eagles close out the game.
Sabou Gueye, Providence, Gr., G
Gueye averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 3.0 steals per game, while shooting .531 from the field (17-32). She posted a career-high 29 points, nine rebounds, and five steals in the 66-50 home win against Xavier.
Sa’Mya Wyatt, St. John’s, So., F
She recorded 14 points, four rebounds and went 5-for-7 (71.4%) from the line in the 71-52 win over Xavier. In the 67-61 victory versus Seton Hall, Wyatt delivered her fourth 20-point game of the season, along with six rebounds.
Jasmine Bascoe, Villanova, So., G
Bascoe averaged 23.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals in a 2-0 week for the Wildcats. Bascoe led Villanova to a 67-57 road victory at Butler, pouring in 27 points and dishing out five assists. She then recorded 19 points, five rebounds and three assists in the team’s 67-55 win over Georgetown.
