DePaul Wins at Marquette on Sunday


MBB Minute: DePaul earned its third straight BIG EAST road win, taking a 62-51 decision at Marquette on Sunday night.  Brandon Maclin finished with 18 points, while NJ Benson registered a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds.

DePaul 62, Marquette 51 - Box Score 
  • It was a back-and-forth start to the game, with four lead changes and three ties.
  • Marquette led 13-11 with 7:39 left in the first half after a Chase Ross steal and layup.
  • The Blue Demons took control the rest of the half, closing with a 21-1 run and taking a 32-14 lead at the break
  • The Golden Eagles began the second half on a 12-2 push and began to chip away at the DePaul lead
  • Marquette trailed by three - 51-48 - with 2:46 to play, but a 10-1 push by DePaul - paced by six points from NJ Benson - put the game out of reach.
  • Brandon Maclin led DePaul with 18 points to go with five rebounds and three assists. NJ Benson finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds, while Kruz McClure added 10 points off the bench.
  • For Marquette, Nigel James Jr. finished with 14 points, seven boards, three assists, and five steals.  Chase Ross added 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals.


Of Note:
  • NJ Benson's 16 rebounds tied his career-best total in BIG EAST play.  
  • DePaul limited Marquette to 14 first-half points - the fewest the Blue Demons have yielding to a conference opponent in a first half since 1997.
  • Marquette retired 2019 BIG EAST Player of the Year Markus Howard's jersey during a halftime ceremony
