Providence's Sellers, Marquette's James Jr. Receive BIG EAST Weekly Awards 


NEW YORK - Jaylin Sellers from Providence and Nigel James Jr. from Marquette are this week's BIG EAST Weekly award honorees.  Sellers averaged 27.0 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Friars, while James averaged 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 4.0 steals for the Golden Eagles in a pair of games.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Jaylin Sellers, Providence, G, Gr.
Sellers averaged 27.0 points and 2.0 rebounds, while connecting on nearly 66% of his shot attempts from the floor (21-32) - including 9-of-14 from the perimeter - in a pair of wins for the Friars this past week.  In a Feb. 25 home win against Xavier, Sellers scored 27 points, knocking down 10-of-14 shots (4-6 3FG) in 37 minutes of play.  Last time out at Creighton, Sellers led all scorers with 27 points (11-18 FG; 5-8 3FG) to go with four rebounds and an assist, helping to extend Providence's win streak to three games.  This is the second Player of the Week honor for Sellers this season.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Nigel James Jr., Marquette, G, Fr.
James averaged 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 4.0 steals, and 1.0 steal per game in a 1-1 week for the Golden Eagles.  James tallied 20 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals in a Feb. 24 at Georgetown.  He made 9-of-16 shots (2-4 3FG) in the win over the Hoyas. Last time out against DePaul, James tallied 14 points, seven boards, three assists, five steals, and two blocks.  This marks the fourth time James has been named Freshman of the Week.


BIG EAST Honor Roll
Alex Karaban, UConn, F, R-Sr. 
Karaban averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in a 2-0 week for the Huskies.  The 6-8 forward had 14 points, five rebounds, and two assists in a win over St. John's on Feb. 25.  Last time out, the senior finished with 23 points, three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals in a win over Seton Hall.

Tarris Reed Jr., UConn, C, Sr. 
Reed averaged a double-double this past week, tallying 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds to go with 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 3.5 blocks in a 2-0 week for the Huskies.  He finished with 20 points, 11 boards, three assists, six blocks, and two steals in a home win over St. John's.  Last time out against Seton Hall, the 6-11 senior had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Brandon Maclin, DePaul, G, Sr. 
Maclin posted 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in a pair of wins for DePaul this past week.  He scored 19 of his season-high 21 points in the second half of a Feb. 26 win at Creighton. Last time out at Marquette, the 6-3 guard finished with 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists. He made nearly 52% (14-27) of his shot attempts over the two-game span.

AJ Staton-McCray, Seton Hall, G, Gr.
Staton-McCray tallied 20 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in Seton Hall's lone game of the week.  The 6-4 guard made 6-of-13 shots from the floor, including 4-of-8 attempts from the perimeter and all four of his attempts from the free throw line at UConn on Feb. 28.

Roddie Anderson III, Xavier, G, Gr.
Anderson averaged 24.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Musketeers.  He had 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting to go with six rebounds at Providence on Feb. 25.  In a Feb. 28 win over Georgetown, the 6-3 guard finished with 21 points, two boards, four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.
