UNCASVILLE, Conn. – No. 1 seed UConn secured a 84-39 victory over No. 8 seed Georgetown Saturday afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena to advance to Sunday’s semifinal of the 2026 BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament Presented by Jeep.
UConn senior forward Serah Williams led all scorers with 14 points on an efficient 7-of-8 shooting, while pulling down seven boards, blocking two shots and swiping three steals. Three Huskies joined her in double figures, including KK Arnold (12 points), Sarah Strong (11 points) and Azzi Fudd (10 points). Strong also took away six steals, as part of a 19 steal performance for UConn as a team. Georgetown graduate guard Laila Jewett finished with nine points to lead the Hoyas.
Georgetown struck first, jumping out to a 4–0 lead just 1:07 into the game, but UConn quickly seized control of the quarter. The Huskies answered with a dominant 22–1 run that flipped the momentum entirely and put Georgetown on its heels. UConn’s offense was sharp throughout the period, shooting 10-of-16 from the field while Georgetown managed just 3-of-10. The Huskies also created a major advantage through their defense, turning turnovers into a 13–2 edge in points off giveaways. By the end of the opening quarter, UConn had firmly taken command, leading 24–10.
UConn carried that momentum into the second quarter, opening the period with a quick 10–2 run to extend its lead to 34–12 and further tighten its grip on the game. At the break, UConn held a commanding 47-18 advantage, as senior forward Serah Williams led all scorers with 12 points and six rebounds.
UConn closed the first 20 minutes of action shooting 19-of-30 from the field and 7-of-13 from deep, while a stifling defense limited Georgetown to shoot 6-of-24 from the field. The Huskies held a 32-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
The second half was more the same, as UConn dominated the third quarter 22-4, to jump in front 69-22, in an eventual 45-point win.
For the game, UConn shot 31-63 (.492) from the field and 9-of-27 (.333) from long range. The Huskies held a 42-3 advantage in points off turnovers, as well as a 42-8 edge in points in the paint. Georgetown capped the contest shooting 12-of-49 from the field and 6-of-23 from deep.
