BIG EAST Offensive Player/Freshman of the Week
Lucy Zich, UConn, Fr., F 

Zich delivered a clutch performance, scoring twice, including the game-winner, to propel the Huskies to a 3-2 victory over No. 17 Liberty on Friday.  After Liberty struck first, Zich helped spark UConn’s comeback with a second-quarter goal before sealing the Huskies’ lead with her second tally in the third.  She finished with a team-high five shots, three on goal and four points as UConn improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play. Zich now ranks third in the BIG EAST in goals for the season.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Serena Langendoen, Old Dominion, Sr., D 

Langendoen was key in helping the Monarchs secure a pair of victories in a span of less than 24 hours, including a 2-0 shutout at William & Mary.  Langendoen opened the weekend with two goals in Sunday’s 5-1 win over Saint Louis, converting two penalty strokes while leading ODU with 12 shots.  The senior then delivered the game-winning goal off a penalty corner with one minute remaining in the first quarter at William & Mary, helping the Monarchs control play and preserve the shutout. Langendoen finished the weekend with three goals and six points on 16 shots, including 12 on goal, while contributing to a defensive effort that limited William & Mary to four shots and just two penalty corners.  The back-to-back victories improved Old Dominion to 7-2 on the season.  Langendoen currently leads the BIG EAST in total shots, shots on goal, and points and is tied for the lead in total goals and game-winning goals on the year.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Charlotte Ritter, UConn, Fr., M 

Ritter delivered a pivotal assist in the Huskies’ 3-2 victory on Friday.  With UConn leading 2-1 in the third quarter, Ritter assisted on Lucy Zich’s goal at 36:37 to give the Huskies a crucial 3-1 lead that ultimately stood as the game-winning margin. Ritter started and played all 60 minutes, helping UConn limit Liberty to just eight shots, including only one in the third quarter, as the Huskies secured their second win over a ranked opponent this season. 

Paris-Gail Isaacs, Liberty, So., M/D 

Isaacs scored her second goal of the season in the Flames’ 3-2 loss to No. 7 UConn on Friday.  The sophomore midfielder found the back of the cage in the 60th minute on a penalty-corner shot into the left side, cutting the Huskies’ lead to one.  She finished with one goal, two shots, both on goal, and two points in her fifth appearance of the season. Through five contests, Isaacs has totaled two goals, two assists, and six points. 

Carly van Benten, Providence, Sr., F 

Van Benten delivered back-to-back game-winning goals to lead the Friars to a pair of road victories, including a BIG EAST win over Georgetown.  Van Benten scored with 3:07 remaining in regulation to lift Providence to a 1-0 shutout of the Hoyas on Friday, finishing the contest with two shots.  Two days later, she struck again in the Friars’ 2-1 victory at American, scoring the game-winner just 61 seconds after the Eagles had tied the game in the third quarter.  Van Benten finished the weekend with two goals, four points and seven shots, including four on goal, while helping Providence improve to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST play.  Her six goals this season are a career high and rank second on the team, while her four game-winning goals on the year are tied for the BIG EAST lead. 

Ava Borkowski, Villanova, Gr., F 

Borkowski provided a strong offensive spark for Villanova in its win over Temple, scoring a goal and tallying two points.  Against the Owls, Borkowski got the action started with a goal just two minutes into the contest to get the Wildcats’ offense rolling to a 4-1 win.  She finished the contest with three total shots, two on goal, for a .667 shot on goal percentage.  Borkowski pushed her season totals to nine goals and 20 points, tying for the BIG EAST lead in goals and ranking second in total points. 

Molly Zimmerman, Villanova, Jr., D 

Zimmerman collected a career-high three points on a goal and an assist to help lead Villanova to its first BIG EAST win over Temple on Friday. With the game tied 1-1, Zimmerman helped to set up Katharina Balks for her goal to put the ‘Cats back in front.  She then helped Nova add to its lead with a goal in the third to push the score to 3-1. Defensively, Zimmerman helped anchor Nova’s defense, allowing just one goal and holding Temple to four shots on goal.  Her goal marked the first of her career while her assist marked the seventh on the year.  She currently ranks second in the BIG EAST in total assists and assists per game with a .778 mark.
