During the BIG EAST SAAC’s 2020 annual meeting, the student-athlete representatives identified voter registration and civic awareness as an area of focus for this academic year, identified through the subcommittee on Service and Initiatives. BIG EAST Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Launches Voter Registration Campaign
Last week, on Voter Registration Day, the BIG EAST Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) kicked off a voter registration challenge that will continue through Oct. 30. The challenge is part of an overall goal to increase civic awareness among student-athletes which resonates appropriately in a Presidential election and census data collection year.

BIG EAST Releases Student-Athlete RISE To Action Voter Awareness Initiative
On Sept. 3, two months prior to Election Day, the BIG EAST released a voter
education video which featured student-athlete representatives from all 11 conference institutions. The PSA video is a component of the BIG EAST Conference’s greater partnership with the Ross Institute for Sports Equality (RISE), as well as a piece of the BIG EAST Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s (SAAC) initiative to increase civic engagement amongst their peers.

BIG EAST Announces New Partnership with RISE
The BIG EAST Conference has announced a conference-wide partnership with
RISE that will extend through the 2021-22 academic year. RISE is a leading provider of educational programming that equips sports leaders to create positive change on matters of racism, social justice and equality. Over the next two years, RISE will provide a range of programming to BIG EAST stakeholders, including leadership workshops, civic engagement education, town halls and fan activations at the conference level and with all eleven BIG EAST member institutions.
