How the four spots are earned

1 - 4The top four teams in the final conference standings.
Seeded by conference winning percentage, with the volleyball tiebreakers below.
Percentage, sets and tied teams

Standings use conference winning percentage. Every team plays 16 conference matches.

Ties are broken by head-to-head matches, then sets, then rally points, then results against the standings from the top down. A set score you pick (3-0, 3-1 or 3-2) counts in the set-based steps.

Rally point totals come from official box scores and are added by the Conference for completed matches. A tie that needs points for an unplayed match stays open, as does a coin toss.

Volleyball seeding policy supplied by BIG EAST

How the projected seeds apply the policy:

  • Teams are ranked by conference winning percentage; the top four qualify.
  • As soon as a team gains or loses the advantage, the remaining tied teams restart at Step 1 (two teams) or Step A (three or more).
  • Steps 4-5 and D-E compare against each position from the top; teams tied with each other there count as one group, and only common opponents count.
  • Set scores you pick count in the set-based steps. Rally point totals are added by the Conference from official box scores; a tie that needs points not yet entered stays open.
  • A coin toss is conducted by the Conference office and never simulated.
13. Tie Breaker/Seeding Policies (Updated 8.24.2021; 7.29.2022) The top four teams in the regular season conference standings will qualify for the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship. Seeding is based on winning percentage. The No. 1 seed will play the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed will play the No. 3 seed. Any ties that result in the standings with regards to seeding for the BIG EAST Conference Championship or for the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament (if no conference tournament is played) will be broken using the tie-breaking procedures below. NOTE: In the event that a team that has qualified for their respective BIG EAST Conference Championship and is unable to participate, a replacement team will be identified by 8am ET on the Monday before the championship. The replacement would be the next team in the standings using the existing seeding procedures. If a participating team has to withdraw after 8am on the Monday before the championship, the team will not be replaced, and their opponent will advance in the bracket. Two-Team tie If two teams are tied with the same winning percentage, the following steps are taken in order. In the event that two teams' winning percentages are tied at 1.000, or the teams do not play against each other skip to Step 5 below. 1. Regular season league head-to-head match record. If the teams play only once, that still satisfies the series. 2. Regular season league head-to-head set record. If the teams play only once, that still satisfies the series. 3. Regular season league head-to-head point total. If the teams play only once, that still satisfies the series. 4. Each team's winning percentage vs. the team or tied [group of] teams occupying the highest position in the standings. Only common opponents will be considered. If an advantage is not determined, proceed to the next team or group of tied teams in the standings for comparison. Continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage. NOTE: When arriving at a pair of tied teams when comparing records, use each team's winning percentage against the tied teams as a group (prior to their own tie-breaking procedure) rather than the performance against the individual tied teams. 5. Each team's set winning percentage vs. the team or tied [group of] teams occupying the highest position in the standings. 6. Compare each team's total wins in conference play. 7. Coin toss. Multiple-Team tie (Three or more teams) Tied teams are viewed as a mini-conference, when comparing head-to-head results. As soon as one team gains or loses advantage in the mini-conference, revert to the beginning of the tie-breaking policies with the remaining teams. If three or more teams are tied with the same winning percentage, the following steps are taken: A. Best match winning percentage within the mini-conference. If the teams play only once, that still satisfies the series between opponents. B. Best set record winning percentage within the mini-conference. If the teams play only once, that still satisfies the series between opponents. C. Best point percentage (total points scored divided by total points played) within the mini-conference. If the teams play only once, that still satisfies the series between opponents. D. E. Each team's set winning percentage vs. the team or tied [group of] teams occupying the highest position in the conference standings. Only common opponents will be considered. If an advantage is not determined, proceed to the next team or group of tied teams in the standings for comparison. Continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage. F. Compare each team's total wins in conference play. G. Coin toss.
Your picks are hypothetical. This page shows conference records and winning percentage using completed results plus any remaining matches you select. Unselected fixtures remain unplayed. Tied rows are not official seed assignments; no team is declared qualified or eliminated here. Final championship selection and seeding are confirmed by the BIG EAST Conference. Official results are updated periodically, not live.
