BIG EAST teams combined for a 1-1-1 mark on Thursday night, including Marquette’s 1-1 double-overtime draw at No. 22/25 Santa Clara. The tie marked the second by a BIG EAST team against a top-25 foe, following Providence’s draw with then-No. 10/13 Rutgers (Aug. 21). The Friars notched their second consecutive shutout win last night with a 2-0 victory over visiting Boston University. Weekend Ahead
A challenging slate awaits BIG EAST teams this weekend which includes matches against four top-25 teams, seven squads coming off NCAA Tournament appearances and seven unbeaten teams. Marquette will face its second consecutive top-25 foe when it travels to No. 2/1 Stanford on Sunday, while Villanova has back-to-back tilts against No. 9/24 Minnesota (Friday) and No. 8/8 North Carolina (Sunday) on a neutral pitch in Durham, N.C. St. John’s will look to remain unbeaten when it visits Yale on Friday and hosts Fairfield on Sunday, while Georgetown will aim to hand No. 12/7 Rutgers its first loss of the year when the Hoyas travel to Piscataway on Friday night. Butler will make the short trip to Bloomington, Ind., to face SMU and LSU, while DePaul hikes to West Point, N.Y., to face the host Black Knights and Hofstra. Providence (vs. Colgate), Seton Hall (vs. Monmouth) and Xavier (at Dayton) each play a single contest, while Creighton will look to get back on track at home against Kansas State on Friday before traveling to South Dakota State on Sunday.
