Georgetown tops Butler, Xavier bests Providence in 2020 finales.

Georgetown 56, Butler 45  
Playing just its second game of the season, Georgetown (1-1, 1-1 BIG EAST) scored an 11-point home win over Butler on Thursday afternoon. Jillian Archer notched her first double-double in a GU uniform as the USC transfer went for 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Georgetown’s Yasmin Ott led all scorers with 13 points off 5-of-8 shooting. Okako Adika led the Bulldogs (0-4, 0-3) with 11 points and nine boards. After trailing by four at the break, Georgetown outscored Butler 25-10 over the final 20 minutes, limiting the Bulldogs to just 16-percent shooting in the third and fourth quarters.

Xavier 64, Providence 50 
Both squads were playing without key players with the likes of Mary Baskerville (PC) and A’riana Gray (XU) out of the lineups on Thursday. Sarah Leyendecker raised her game for the Musketeers with 18 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the year, leading Xavier (4-3, 1-2) to its first BIG EAST victory of the season. Kyra Spiwak notched a game-high 19 points for Providence (4-5, 2-2), which was playing its first game in 12 days. Tied with 9:43 to go in the contest, XU went on a decisive 13-0 run to pull away and maintain a double-digit buffer the rest of the way.

No games are on the docket for Friday as the Georgetown-Villanova tilt at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday will be the first for BIG EAST women’s basketball squads in 2021. The game will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi, available on FloSports. The Hoyas are coming off their first win of the season with a 56-45 home victory over Butler on Thursday, which included a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double for Jillian Archer. Saturday’s game will be the first for the Wildcats since a 90-52 loss to then-No. 3 UConn on Dec. 22. Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist leads the BIG EAST in both scoring (23.3) and rebounding (11.6).
