Two BIG EAST women’s basketball games are slated for FS1 this week, beginning tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET when reigning conference champion and 19
th-ranked DePaul hosts St. John’s. The Blue Demons are playing in their first game since a 94-82 win over Villanova on Jan. 4 at Wintrust Arena, while the Red Storm played its first game of the New Year on Saturday, scoring a 64-56 home win over Butler. FS1 resumes BIG EAST women’s hoops coverage on Sunday, when St. John’s hosts Marquette at 2 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm and Golden Eagles met earlier this season, with MU grinding out a 66-62 home win.
What We’re Watching On Wednesday
In addition to the St. John’s-DePaul FS1 tilt, Georgetown returns to the court at Butler at 2 p.m. ET. That game will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi, available on FloSports. For more on both of Wednesday’s games, see below.
Georgetown at Butler (2 p.m., BEDN on FloSports): The Hoyas (1-1, 1-1 BIG EAST) have just two games under their belts this year and one of those, a win, was at home against Wednesday’s foe Butler (0-7, 0-6). Young talent is on display at Hinkle Fieldhouse as Butler newcomer Okako Adika leads the Bulldogs with 13.7 points per game, while rookie Yasmin Ott is the top scorer for GU at 15.5 points per game. Both Adika and Ott reached double figures in the Hoyas’ 56-45 win over Butler back on Dec. 31, with Ott scoring a game-high 13 points to Adika’s team-high 11.
St. John’s at No. 19/22 DePaul (6:30 p.m., FS1): Despite the Blue Demons (6-3, 3-1) having recent control of the series with the Red Storm (13 consecutive regular-season wins), it is a historically close game. Six of the last seven regular-season meetings have been decided by single digits, including last year’s matchups which were decided by a combined 11 points. Sonya Morris was the star for DePaul last year against St. John’s, leading the Blue Demons in scoring in both victories. She is averaging a team-best 17.9 points per game in 2020-21. It was Qadashah Hoppie who had the hot hand for St. John’s against DePaul a year ago, racking up game highs of 27 points and 20 points. Hoppie is averaging 16.6 points per game this season to rank second on the Red Storm (4-5, 1-3) behind Leilani Correa (21.1).
