BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Andra Espinoza-Hunter, Seton Hall, Grad., G
Espinoza-Hunter earns her second consecutive BIG EAST Player of the Week honor after once again leading the conference in scoring in an unbeaten week for the Pirates. The graduate student guard averaged 29.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in home wins over St. John’s and Xavier. Espinoza-Hunter helped The Hall win the rivalry game with the Red Storm by exploding for a career-high 30 points, while adding eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. She followed that with 28 points off 50-percent shooting against the Musketeers on Saturday. For the week she shot .478 from the field and .444 from deep.
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week
Paige Bueckers, Connecticut, Fr., G
Bueckers claims her fifth top rookie honor of the season after averaging 11.0 points, 7.5 assists, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in a home win over Butler and road victory over No. 25 Tennessee. She had 13 points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals against the Bulldogs, before tallying nine points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals against the Lady Vols. Bueckers sank arguably the biggest shot of her young career with 25 seconds left at Tennessee. The Huskies were up two with the shot clock winding down as the rookie guard drained the game-clinching three-pointer.
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll
Christyn Williams, Connecticut, Jr., G
Williams averaged 18.0 points, 3.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals in wins over Butler, No. 25 Tennessee and Georgetown. She tallied a game-high 20 points in the Huskies’ top-25 road win over the Lady Vols.
Deja Church, DePaul, Sr., G
Church notched a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds in the 18
th-ranked Blue Demons’ win at Butler on Thursday. The senior guard also reached the 1,000 career point mark that night.
Chloe Marotta, Marquette, Jr., G
Marotta averaged 14.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Golden Eagles, highlighted by a career-best 21 points against Georgetown on Wednesday. She shot an impressive 13-of-15 (.867) on the week.
Qadashah Hoppie, St. John’s, Sr., G
Hoppie had a team-high 18 points and game-high six assists in the Red Storm’s loss at Seton Hall on Wednesday.
Desiree Elmore, Seton Hall, Sr., G/F
Elmore was the BIG EAST’s No. 2 scorer last week behind teammate Andra Espinoza-Hunter, averaging 19.5 points in wins over St. John’s and Xavier. She shot .640 from the field and added 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals.
