BEDN’s Saturday Slate
It’s one-stop shopping on Saturday for BIG EAST women’s basketball as all three games on the calendar will tipoff at 1 p.m. ET, and stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi, available on FloSports. Marquette travels to Providence, Butler hosts St. John’s while Creighton visits Seton Hall.
Why We’re Watching
Marquette at Providence (1 p.m., BEDN): The Golden Eagles (13-4, 10-3 BIG EAST)) scored an 89-40 win over Providence (6-8, 4-5) back on Dec. 4, in what was just the third game of the season for Marquette. The Friars had their worst shooting performance (.235) of the season that afternoon and have shaken off that showing since, eclipsing the 40-percent shooting mark in three of its last five outings. Hot shooting is something the Golden Eagles pride themselves on too as they rank not only second in the BIG EAST with a .466 season clip, but 18
th nationally. The point guard battle could be a fun one as PC’s Chanell Williams is coming off a 17-point outing in Wednesday’s win at Creighton, while MU’s Jordan King dropped 11 points and six dimes in Wednesday’s victory over Butler.
St. John’s at Butler (1 p.m., BEDN): Over 10 BIG EAST games this season, Leilani Correa has not only led St. John’s (5-11, 2-9) with a 22.9 scoring average, but currently ranks first among all league players. Correa has eclipsed the 30-point mark a BIG EAST-best five times this year and has done so in three straight games entering Saturday’s tilt at Butler, including 33 points against both No. 2 UConn and No. 22 DePaul. Correa scored a game-high 20 points when the Red Storm knocked off Butler back on Jan. 9 by a 64-56 margin. Genesis Parker led the Bulldogs (1-13, 1-12) in that narrow setback, scoring a team-best 13 points. Parker scored a game-high 16 points on Wednesday at Marquette, and has led Butler in scoring five times this season.
Creighton at Seton Hall (1 p.m., BEDN): The Bluejays-Pirates series is one of the most competitive in the BIG EAST, with more than half of their all-time regular-season meetings decided by 10 points or less, including two overtime decisions. They’ve split the series the last two seasons, but Saturday’s meeting will be the first of the year for the two. Both will look to shake off setbacks from Wednesday. Saturday’s tilt will feature some of the top three-point shooters in the BIG EAST, including Seton Hall’s Andra Espinoza-Hunter (.436, 3.8 per game) and Creighton’s Temi Carda (.407, 1.8 per game). The Pirates enter the game 9-4 on the year and 7-3 in BIG EAST play, while Creighton is 4-8 overall and 3-5 in league action.
Friday Night In #BIGEASTwbb: 2/1 UConn 64, Georgetown 40
The Huskies (16-1, 13-0 BIGEAST) overcome a slow start which saw the host Hoyas (1-10, 1-10) hold a lead early in the second quarter before the second-ranked Huskies outscored Georgetown 34-16 between the second and third frames. UConn’s Christyn Williams and Paige Bueckers tied for the game high with 19 points apiece to help keep the Huskies undefeated in BIG EAST play. Bueckers added a game-high nine assists. Georgetown was led by Kelsey Ransom’s 15 points, four rebounds and three assists.
