#BIGEASTwbb Minute: Important Rivalry Game Highlights Wednesday’s BEDN Marathon

Four games are slated to stream on BEDN on Wednesday, with the Marquette-DePaul showdown pivotal for postseason implications.

BIG EAST Notes - 2.24
What’s Up On Wednesday

It’s one-stop shopping for BIG EAST women’s basketball on Wednesday as four games will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi, available on FloSports. Action tips off at 1 p.m. ET when Villanova travels to Providence, followed by a 4 p.m. tilt between Georgetown and St. John’s in Queens. The 5 p.m. game is a big one as No. 24/23 DePaul hosts RV/RV Marquette, before Seton Hall at Xavier wraps up the day at 7 p.m. The Blue Demons and Golden Eagles meet with BIG EAST Tournament seeding potentially on the line, as Marquette could lock up the No. 2 seed with a win. MU has already guaranteed itself a top-three finish after improving to 13-3 on Monday night. DePaul could spoil Marquette’s chances at sharing a regular-season title with No. 1/1 UConn, as one more loss for the Golden Eagles would put that out of reach. A Blue Demon win would put DePaul back in second place with two games remaining against teams currently in the lower half of the standings. For more on all of Wednesday’s games, see below.

Why We’re Watching …
VILLANOVA at PROVIDENCE, 1 p.m. (BEDN): Recently crowned USBWA National Player of the Week Maddy Siegrist will look to make Villanova history on Wednesday as the sophomore is only 26 points shy of 1,000 for her young career. Wednesday’s game is just the 49th of her career, as Siegrist is looking to become the first Wildcat to hit 1K in under 50 games. The Friars have guaranteed a First Round BIG EAST Tournament game, but are currently in seventh place, which would align with the No. 2 seed should they advance. PC can finish as high as a tie for sixth, which would pit them against the 11th-seeded/last-place squad in the tourney first round.
GEORGETOWN at ST. JOHN’S, 4 p.m. (BEDN): Six of the Hoyas last seven games have been decided by single digits, while the Red Storm has seen eight games this year decided by nine or less. Georgetown has suffered heartbreak after heartbreak and St. John’s will hope the Hoyas don’t make their breakthrough at Carnesecca on Wednesday afternoon. St. John’s scored a 70-53 win when they met earlier this season, thanks to a 35-point outing by Leilani Correa. Graceann Bennett has been solid for GU, leading the Hoyas in scoring in four of the last six games, while Milan Bolden-Morris scored 18 against the Johnnies in January.
RV/RV MARQUETTE at 24/23 DePAUL, 5 p.m. (BEDN): DePaul-Marquette lived up to the billing last time they met, and like most times prior to that. The Blue Demons scored an 87-82 win on Feb. 7, as Dejah Church scored a game-high 24 points. Lauren Van Kleunen had the hot hand that afternoon for Marquette, and the redshirt-senior has had it since, averaging 15.3 points and .571 shooting over her last six games. With a lot on the line for both teams, not only for BIG EAST Tournament seeding but NCAA Tournament resume building, this one is bound to be another thriller in Chicago.
SETON HALL at XAVIER, 7 p.m. (BEDN): The Hall can still finish as high as third in the BIG EAST standings and enters Wednesday game with Xavier in fifth. The Pirates have won two straight, thanks in part to the stellar play of Desiree Elmore. Elmore has scored in double figures in 13 straight games, including 23 points and 12 boards in Saturday’s win over Providence. The Musketeers will aim to halt their skid at five games and get more great performances out of Nia Clark and A’riana Gray, who combined for 36 points at Butler on Monday night.
