Creighton in the BIG EAST Championship: first appearance
The Bluejays are making their first BIG EAST Championship appearance and face a tall task in three-time champion and No. 1 seed Georgetown. Creighton (4-5-0, 4-4-0 Midwest) and Georgetown (9-0-1, 7-0-1 East) played to a 2-2 draw when they last met – back on Oct. 13, 2019 at the Hoyas’ Shaw Field. While the lineups for both teams have changed since that meeting, a number of pivotal pieces remain, including Creighton’s Skylar Heinrich and Ansley Atkinson, who both took home All-BIG EAST Second Team honors earlier today. For the Hoyas, recently crowned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Jenna Menta and Defensive Player of the Year Kelly Ann Livingstone have each faced the Bluejays before, while Midfielder of the Year Daisy Cleverley will get her first shot at Creighton. Georgetown has advanced to the BIG EAST title game in four consecutive seasons, winning three-straight crowns between 2016-2018. GU enters the game ranked No. 10 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll and has allowed just one goal over 10 games this season. Creighton, which took home Coaching Staff of the Year honors, hasn’t been held scoreless since mid-March, averaging 1.8 goals over its last five contests.

Series History: first meeting
Butler in the BIG EAST Championship: seventh appearance – 5-4-1 (.550); 2015 champion
UConn in the BIG EAST Championship: 20
th appearance – 21-15-5 (.573); two-time champion (2002, 2004)
In its first season back in the BIG EAST since 2012, UConn is off to the conference tournament for the 20
th time, most in league history. The Huskies (8-2-1, 6-2-1 East) will get their first ever look at the No. 1 seed out of the Midwest Division in Butler (9-1-0, 6-1-0 Midwest), which has qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in seven of its eight seasons as a member. The Bulldogs won the title in 2015, while UConn has two to its credit, coming in 2004 and 2002. Both teams collected a bevy of All-BIG EAST honors on Thursday afternoon, but most notably was the shared Goalkeeper of the Year plaudits for Butler’s Stephanie Rodriguez and UConn’s Randi Palacios. The two rank 1-2 in most BIG EAST statistical categories, and though they’ll most likely never be face-to-face during the game, all eyes will be on them throughout. The keepers are likely to be tested throughout as UConn-Butler rank 2-3 in the BIG EAST in goals, with the Huskies scoring 16 over their nine East Division contests and the Bulldogs racking up 15 over their seven Midwest showdowns. Butler has advanced to the BIG EAST final in two of the last three years, while UConn eyes its first title game appearance since 2008.
