No. 2 Xavier Wins 2025 BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship

BOYDS, Md. – No. 2 seed Xavier defeated nationally-ranked and No. 1 seed Georgetown, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in the 2025 BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship game at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. This BIG EAST title is Xavier’s first since 2019.

With the win, the Musketeers earn the BIG EAST's automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Championship. The NCAA Championship Selection Show is slated for Monday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.

Samantha Erbach connected on a penalty kick to give Xavier a 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game. Scoring on either side of the field was quiet until the 79-minute mark, when Regan Dancer found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead and eventual win for the Musketeers. Xavier goalkeeper Maria Galley made a career-high tying nine saves in the victory.

Maja Lardner was active on the offensive end for the Hoyas, taking six shots with four on goal. Georgetown goalkeeper Cara Martin recorded five saves.

Erbach, who finished the tournament with four goals, was named BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Offensive Player, while Elizabeth Powell earned Most Outstanding Defensive Player. Powell was part of a defensive unit that shut out both tournament opponents.

Erbach and Powell joined teammates Regan Dancer and Emma Flick on the All-Tournament Team. Georgetown’s Kaya Hanson, Maja Lardner and Henley Tippins were also named to the team. UConn’s Anna Carson and Chioma Okafor, and Creighton’s Alyssa Zalac and Tori Gillis rounded out the all-tourney selections.

The rest of the BIG EAST teams will wait to see if they earn at-large selections. Georgetown is ranked No. 9 in the most recent NCAA RPI, followed by UConn at 44.
