NEW YORK – Villanova and Seton Hall were the first champions of the spring season as the BIG EAST Esports Invitational Powered by ESL concluded this weekend. Villanova won the League of Legends (LOL) by Riot Games championship on Saturday, while Seton Hall won the Rocket League ® by Psyonix on Sunday.
In the LOL competition, No. 1 seed DePaul defeated No. 4 seed Providence, 2-0 and No. 2 seed Villanova won 2-0 over No. 3 seed Seton Hall in the semifinals. In the championship game, second-seeded Villanova shut out top-seeded DePaul 2-0 for the BIG EAST League of Legends title.
On Sunday, the BIG EAST Esports Invitational concluded with the Rocket League competition. Top-seeded DePaul defeated fourth-seeded Butler, 3-2 in the first semifinal. In the second semifinal, Seton Hall, seeded second in the bracket, shut out Marquette 3-0. In the championship game, the No. 2 seed once again reigned supreme as the Pirates defeated DePaul 3-1 and became the BIG EAST Rocket League champion.
