BIG EAST Announces Changes to 2020 Fall Sports Scheduling

Men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball and field hockey will move to geographic divisions for 2020 fall season.

NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference announced scheduling changes for the 2020 fall season with league play for men’s soccer, women’s soccer, volleyball and field hockey based on geographic divisions. In an effort to reduce or eliminate air travel for conference members this fall, soccer and volleyball will be separated into East and Midwest Divisions, while field hockey will move to North and South Divisions. Men’s soccer, women’s soccer and field hockey divisional opponents will face each other two times in a double round-robin format, while volleyball divisional opponents will play each other four times.

Geographic divisions for men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball are as follows – in the East will be Georgetown, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Villanova and incoming BIG EAST member Connecticut; in the Midwest will be Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Marquette and Xavier. For field hockey, Connecticut, Providence and affiliate members Quinnipiac and Temple comprise the North Division, while Georgetown, Villanova and affiliate members Liberty and Old Dominion make up the South Division.

BIG EAST schedules will be created using the NCAA Championship date formulas to ensure the completion of the conference schedules in time for the national postseason selection dates. BIG EAST championship dates, sites and formats will be announced at a later date.
