BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Rachele Rastelli, St. John’s, Sr., RS (Parma, Italy)
St. John’s senior Rachele Rastelli earns her third BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week selection of the season. The conference leader in kills per set was at it again this past weekend, averaging 4.86 kills per set across the Red Storm’s 1-1 weekend. Rastelli kicked off the weekend by collecting 16 kills on a .306 hitting percentage and 10 digs in a sweep of Xavier. The Parma, Italy native then added 18 more kills on Sunday against Butler to wrap up the weekend.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Melody Davidson, Butler, R-Sr., MB (Anderson, Ind.)
Butler’s Melody Davidson earns her first BIG EAST Defensive Player of the week nod of the season after an impressive showing across the Bulldogs’ 2-0 weekend. Davidson collected 2.71 kills per set and 2.71 blocks per set, the latter of which was the highest mark in the conference this past weekend. The senior began her weekend by tallying 12 kills and eight blocks in a sweep of Seton Hall. She would outdo herself the next day at St. John’s, finishing with 11 total blocks and seven kills in the win. The 11 blocks for Davidson are the most in a single match by a BIG EAST player this season.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Norah Sis, Creighton, Fr., OH (Papillion, Neb.)
Creighton’s Norah Sis continues her torrent pace as she collects her third consecutive BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor. Sis averaged 3.17 kills per set, 2.83 digs per set and 1.50 blocks per set as the Bluejays had a perfect 2-0 week. The freshman picked up her fourth straight double-double in the three set win over Georgetown, finishing with 10 kills, 10 digs and five blocks. She capped off the weekend with nine kills, seven digs and four more blocks in a sweep over Villanova.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Caylee Parker, UConn, Sr., OH (Windsor, Ontario)
Parker ranked sixth in the BIG EAST this past weekend with 3.43 kills per set, while also chipping in defensively with 1.86 digs per frame. The senior shined bright on Sunday against DePaul, hitting .520 en route to 14 kills, seven digs and a three set victory for the Huskies.
Annika Welty, Creighton, Sr., MB/RS (Parkville, Mo.)
Only Melody Davidson averaged more blocks per set this past weekend than Creighton’s Annika Welty. The senior tallied five blocks on Friday against Georgetown before finishing with eight rejections on Sunday against Villanova.
Savannah Rennie, Marquette, Gr., MB (San Diego, Calif.)
Rennie hit .390 on the weekend while averaging 3.33 kills per set as the Golden Eagles maintained the top spot in the BIG EAST standings. The graduate’s week was highlighted by a 19-kill effort in a five set win over DePaul on Wednesday.
Shaliyah Rhoden, Providence, Fr., OH (Rowlett, Texas)
Providence’s Shaliyah Rhoden continues to be one of the top freshmen in the BIG EAST. Her 3.83 kills per set and .380 hitting percentage this weekend both ranked fourth in the conference. After 10 kills in the win against Villanova on Friday, Rhoden put up 13 more kills on Sunday to defeat Georgetown.
Raygan Murray, Seton Hall, Jr., L (Rocky River, Ohio)
Since returning earlier this month after a five-week absence, Raygan Murray has been one of the top Liberos in the BIG EAST. The junior averaged a league-best 5.33 digs per set over the weekend, totaling 16 digs in each of the Pirates’ two matches.
