Davidson, Hickman and Reitsma Take Home Final #BIGEASTvb Weekly Honors

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Melody Davidson, Butler, R-Sr., MB (Anderson, Ind.)
Butler’s Melody Davidson was a force both offensively and defensively during the Bulldogs’ 2-0 weekend to wrap up the regular season. The redshirt senior averaged 3.14 kills per set and 1.57 blocks per set as Butler swept UConn and defeated Xavier in four sets. Davidson collected nine kills and seven total blocks against the Huskies on Thursday, and wrapped up her Butler career with a 13-kill, four-block effort against the Musketeers on Sunday.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Naomi Hickman, Creighton, Sr., MB/RS (Lawrence, Kan.)
Creighton’s Naomi Hickman also celebrated Senior Day in style, closing out her regular season with eight blocks and five kills in the win over St. John’s on Sunday. The Lawrence, Kan. native also added three more blocks in the win over Seton Hall on Friday night. On the weekend, Hickman averaged a BIG EAST-best 2.20 blocks per set.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jenna Reitsma, Marquette, Fr., OH (Lowell, Mich.)
Marquette freshman Jenna Reitsma posted a pair of 11-kill matches and was dominant in the service game as Marquette clinched a share of the BIG EAST regular season crown. The outside hitter finished with a .409 hitting percentage in the win over Georgetown on Friday, and helped pace the Golden Eagles with five service aces on Saturday against Villanova. Overall, Reitsma’s 3.67 kills per set were third-best in the conference this weekend, while her 1.17 aces per set were tops in the BIG EAST.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Caylee Parker, UConn, Sr., OH (Windsor, Ontario)
Parker picked up her 10th double-double of the season on Friday in a five-set win over Xavier. She finished with 20 kills and 14 digs, recording her third match of the season with 20 or more kills. Parker’s 3.75 kills per set were the second most in the conference this weekend.
 
Hanna Karl, DePaul, So., OH (Carlsbad, Calif.)
Karl earned her third straight double-double on Friday against Villanova. In the five-set win, the sophomore finished with 15 kills and 17 digs on a .353 hitting percentage.
 
Norah Sis, Creighton, Fr., OH (Papillion, Neb.)
Sis propelled the Creighton attack once more this weekend, averaging 3.67 kills and 2.50 digs per set. She had a match-high 13 kills to go along with six digs and three blocks in the win over St. John’s on Sunday that earned the Bluejays a share of their eighth straight BIG EAST regular season title.
 
Shaliyah Rhoden, Providence, Fr., OH (Rowlett, Texas)
Rhoden capped off her strong freshman season with a pair of double-digit kill performances across the Friars’ 1-1 weekend. She notched 14 kills in a four-set loss to St. John’s on Friday, followed by an 11-kill performance in the win over Seton Hall on Sunday.
 
Giorgia Walther, St. John’s, Fr., OH (Cannobio, Italy)
Walther also ended her freshman campaign on a high note, averaging a BIG EAST-leading 3.86 kills per set across the Red Storm’s 1-1 weekend. After tallying 17 kills in a win over Providence on Friday, Walther would add 10 more in the season finale on Sunday against Creighton.
