Xavier’s Nunge, Georgetown’s Mohammed Take Weekly MBB Honors

NEW YORK – In a week that included numerous outstanding performances, Xavier center Jack Nunge has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Georgetown guard Aminu Mohammed, for the second straight week, has been selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Nunge led the Musketeers to a convincing win in the Crosstown Shootout and Mohammed sparked the Hoyas to a victory against rival Syracuse.  
 
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Jack Nunge, Xavier, C, Jr. – Coming off the bench against Cincinnati in the Crosstown Shootout, Nunge recorded career highs of 31 points and 15 rebounds in an 83-63 victory. He scored 11 of the first 13 points in the second half to help Xavier gain control of the game. Nunge shot 9-of-14 from the field. Earlier in the week, he had nine points in a 96-50 win over Ball State.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Aminu Mohammed, Georgetown, G, Fr. – Mohammed takes Freshman honors for a second straight week. He helped the Hoyas to two wins by averaging 18.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists. In a comeback 79-75 win against Syracuse, he scored 20 of his game-high 23 points in the second half. He ranks first among league freshmen with a 15.1 scoring average and an 8.7 rebounding mark.
 
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Ryan Hawkins, Creighton, F, Sr. – Matched a season high with 25 points and had eight rebounds and two blocked shots in a neutral-court win against No. 24 BYU (83-71). 
 
David Jones, DePaul, F, So. – Scored career-high 33 points and had 14 rebounds in a win at Louisville (62-55). Averaged 20.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week. 
 
Kaiden Rice, Georgetown, G, Gr. – Averaged 24.5 points in a 2-0 week. Set a school record with 10 3-pointers and finished with a league-high 34 points against UMBC (100-71). Had 15 points versus Syracuse (79-75).
 
A.J. Reeves, Providence, G, Sr. – Averaged 20.5 points, 5.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Shot 47.4 percent from 3-point range in wins over Vermont (68-58) and Central Connecticut State (68-53).
 
Jared Rhoden, Seton Hall, G, Sr. – Averaged 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in wins over No. 7 Texas (64-60) and Rutgers (77-63). Had team-high 18 points in the Texas victory. Posted 16 points and nine boards against Rutgers.
