BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Meghan Mitchell, Villanova, Fr., F (Villanova, Pa.)
Villanova freshman forward Meghan Mitchell scored four times on six shots in a weekend sweep of Quinnipiac. She netted her first career hat trick and her first career game-winning goal in a 5-0 win on Sunday. She scored or assisted on four of the five goals in the game, including scoring the first two of the contest just two minutes apart. She also had a goal in the 3-2 win on Friday. Mitchell leads VU with five goals and 11 points on the season.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Azul Iritxity Irigoyen, Liberty, Fr., GK (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
Liberty keeper Azul Iritxity Irigoyen is the Defensive Player of the Week for the third straight week. Irigoyen recorded her third shutout of the season in a milestone 4-0 win over UConn on Sunday. The rookie keeper made a career-best 12 saves in the contest in the first loss for the Huskies in league play since 2013. On Saturday, the Lady Flames lost 3-2 to UConn, but Irigoyen still had an impressive performance with nine saves. For the year so far, Irigoyen posted a 0.92 goals against average and a .860 save percentage, 37 saves and three shutouts.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Sabine de Ruijter, Villanova, Fr., B (Huizen, Netherlands)
Villanova rookie Sabine de Ruijter helped the Wildcats to a 2-0 weekend over Quinnipiac. She scored two goals off corners in the second half of a 3-2 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday, including her first career game-winning goal with 6:34 to play in the game. The freshman back tallied an assist in a 5-0 win over the Bobcats the next day. Ruijter led the Villanova offense with 11 shots taken during the week, including six shots on goal.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Jessica Dembrowski, UConn, Sr., F
Dembrowski scored two goals, including the game-winner, during UConn’s 3-2 victory over Liberty on Saturday. UConn split with Liberty, 1-1. Dembrowski has four goals and two assists on the season.
Daniella Rhodes, Liberty, So., F
Rhodes scored two goals and added an assist as Liberty split the weekend against UConn in Philadelphia. She leads the team in goals (13) and points (31).
Cristina Carotenuto, Temple, Sr., G
Carotenuto allowed just one goal (a penalty stroke) in two wins for Temple in non-conference action against Monmouth and Drexel. She made seven saves in the 2-1 win over Monmouth and three in the Drexel win, 1-0.
