NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Volleyball Championship Presented by JEEP begins on Friday afternoon with East Division No. 2 seed Connecticut taking on Midwest Division and host No. 1 seed Creighton in the first semifinal, followed by Midwest No. 2 Marquette against East No. 1 St. John’s in the second semifinal. The Bluejays are the host of the tournament, which will take place at D.J. Sokol Arena for the fourth time. The BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by SoFi will stream both semifinals on YouTube and Flosports.
All the action from the D.J. Sokol Arena will be called live by Bob Brainerd and Jill Dorsey-Hall.

Meeting Notes: No. 2 seed UConn replaced Providence as the East Division’s second team after the Friars had to withdraw from the tournament due to COVID-related issues. UConn and Creighton have never met in the BIG EAST tournament as the Bluejays started BIG EAST play in 2013 and the Huskies rejoined the league in summer 2020. Friday's match will be just the second time these two teams have met, with the first meeting dating back to September 12, 2009. The Huskies came away with a 3-2 victory in the only meeting, played at a neutral site in Dayton, Ohio. Creighton is a five-time BIG EAST Tournament champion. The 2019 championship was the only time the Bluejays have not made the final since joining the conference. UConn’s last appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament was Nov. 16, 2012. The Huskies lost 3-2 to Cincinnati. The Huskies were the No. 4 seed, Cincinnati was the No. 5. Creighton’s last appearance in the tournament was a 3-0 loss to No. 4 seed St. John’s in November 2019. Creighton was the No. 1 seed.

Meeting Notes: Friday afternoon will be a rematch of the 2019 BIG EAST Championship final where St. John’s defeated Marquette on its home court, 3-1. Friday will be the third meeting between the two teams in tournament action. The Red Storm and Golden Eagles have each won one. Marquette won in 2018, 3-1 in the semifinals before St. John’s returned the favor last season. Marquette’s last tournament title was 2013, however, the Golden Eagles have been runner-up in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Marquette leads the all-time series against St. John’s, including tournament play, 18-6.
