Connecticut and Villanova Earn the First Track and Field Honors of 2022

BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Sean Dolan, Villanova, Jr., Distance (Pennington, N.J.)
Competing at the Penn 10-Team Select on January 15, Villanova junior Sean Dolan excelled in the 800m, with a BIG EAST leading time of 1:48.11. Through Jan. 26, he ranks fourth in the nation on the season’s qualifying list. In addition, Dolan ran the second-fastest time in school history, trailing only the Wildcats indoor record of 1:47.84, which has stood since 1982.
 
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Travis Snyder, UConn, Jr., Heptathlon (Saco, Maine)
UConn junior Travis Snyder claimed gold in his first collegiate heptathlon with a score of 5,192 at the Harvard Beantown Challenge. The score ranks first in the BIG EAST and 19th nationally. The Saco, Maine, native shined in the pole vault, reaching a BIG EAST leading height of 5.30 m (17’ 4.5”), the 15th highest jump in the nation.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jane Livingston, Villanova, Jr., Sprinter (Lancaster, Pa.)
Villanova junior Jane Livingston took over the BIG EAST lead in the 60m hurdles in her first meet of the indoor season by running a time of 8.38 seconds in the final at the Penn 10-Team Select. One week later, she lowered her time to a new lifetime best of 8.32 to finish first at the Villanova Invitational. Her time is tied for 28th on the national qualifying list.
 
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Sade Meeks, Villanova, Gr., Weight Throw (North Babylon, N.Y.)
Villanova’s Sade Meeks, a graduate transfer from Jacksonville, broke a 20-year-old school record in the weight throw in her Villanova debut at the Penn 10-Team Select on Jan. 15. She threw for a distance of 17.98m to break the previous record of 16.76 set by Melinda Boykin in 2002. Meeks shattered her own mark one week later at the Villanova Invitational when she threw for a career best mark of 20.88m. That mark leads the BIG EAST and is tied for 20th nationally. At the Penn-10 Team Select meet she also competed in the shot put and hit a distance of 14.76 meters, the second farthest throw in the BIG EAST this season.
 
Notable Performances
    UConn’s Eric Van Der Els broke the Huskies indoor mile record with a blazing time of 4:00.93. The time ranks 27th nationally.
    Georgetown’s Joshua Paige set the new BIG EAST mark in 2022 with a time of 21.18 seconds in the 200m that also ranks 25th nationally. He also ran the 300m race in a time of 33.46 seconds.
    UConn’s Emma Chee reached a height of 4.11m in the pole vault, which is the highest mark in the BIG EAST and ranks 30th nationally.
    Marquette’s Arianna Mansavage ran a 25.61 second 200m to win the event at the Lake Michigan Open. She was also part of the 4x400m relay team that took first with a time of 3:59.81.
