Day 1 Results
CHICAGO – After the first day of the 2026 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships presented by JEEP, Connecticut leads on both the men’s and women’s sides with 57 and 88 points, respectively.
For the men, Butler is in second with 35 points, while Villanova is in third with 26 points. On the women’s side, DePaul ranks second with 35 points and Villanova is in third with 31 points. Finals for Friday included the pole vault, long jump, weight throw, 5,000-meter run, distance medley relay and the women’s pentathlon.
The defending champion UConn claimed the top spot in the women’s pole vault, with DePaul finishing second and Marquette third. Rachel Mason won gold after clearing 3.92 meters. DePaul’s Katelyn Welsh secured silver with a height of 3.75m, while Marquette’s Kaitlyn Huebner earned bronze with a height of 3.65m.
In the men’s long jump the Huskies took gold, Butler earned silver and Marquette captured the bronze. Emi Erekosima posted the top mark of the competition at 7.08m. Cabott Craft followed closely in second with a distance of 7.06m, while Marquett’s Justin Miller secured the bronze for the Golden Eagles with a 6.96m performance.
The women’s weight throw featured top finishers from St. John’s and Marquette. Jamora Alves finished in first for the Red Storm with a distance of 17.31m. Teammate Juliet Smith secured silver with a mark of 16.92m. Marquette’s Megan White took the bronze medal after a 16.73m performance.
The women’s pentathlon belonged to UConn, as Ruby Tillson captured gold with 3,933 points. Teammate Alyssa Elliott followed closely with 3,898 points to earn silver, while Audrey Kozak completed the sweep for the Huskies with 3,716 points to take bronze.
On the track, Villanova’s Sadie Sigfstead dominated the women’s 5,000m in 15:44.02 for a gold medal finish. Fellow Wildcat Margaret Carroll earned a silver medal at 16:22.46. UConn’s Sascha Letica rounded out the podium with a 16:30.84 finish.
On the men’s side in the 5,000m, Butler’s Jesse Hamlin captured the gold medal in 14:13.36. Georgetown’s Quinn Parrish came in second with a time of 14:15.58, and teammate Birhanu Harriman matched his third-place finish from a year ago, earning bronze in 14:16.47.
Back in the field events, the UConn Huskies swept the podium in the men’s pole vault, as Wyatt Martin cleared 4.80 meters to take first. Teammate Max Ringwall finished second at 4.50 meters, followed by Dar Jankovic in third at 4.35 meters.
Marshall Potter from UConn earned the gold medal in the men’s weight throw with a final mark of 18.49m. He was followed by Tristan Bolinsky of Villanova with an 18.25m performance and Jaiden Gary of DePaul with a 17.52m performance.
St. John's Cassandra Lemus-Sodji claimed the women’s long jump title with a leap of 6.22 meters. DePaul’s Jaiah Hopf earned silver for the second consecutive year, recording a mark of 6.08 meters, while UConn’s Maresa Hense finished third at 6.00 meters.
Villanova earned the gold in the women’s DMR with a time of 11:20.81. Providence raced to a second-place finish at 11:23.05. DePaul finished in third with a time of 11:30.29.
Finally, the Villanova Wildcats, who coming into the event had won 10 of the last 11 BIG EAST Indoor men’s DMR titles, once again took home the gold medal with a finishing time of 9:43.92. Providence earned the silver medal with a mark of 9:47.09, while Butler finished third with a time of 9:48.20.
Championship action begins at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday with the women’s shot put, women’s triple jump and men’s high jump. The full event schedule and results can be found on the
