BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Giorgia Walther, St. John’s, So., OH
In a perfect 2-0 week, Walther led the BIG EAST in points (5.21) while ranking second in kills (4.43). The sophomore outside hitter stood among the conference’s top ten in two additional categories, hitting for sixth in the BIG EAST (.355) and producing three service aces (7
th, 0.43). Walther’s match-best 24 kills in the Red Storm’s 3-1 defeat of Seton Hall is the most by any conference competitor in four sets this season. On the week, Walther totaled 31 kills, 15 digs, and 3 service aces.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Kiana Schmitt, Creighton, Sr., Middle Blocker
Schmitt was the cornerstone of a Creighton defense which recorded two come-from-behind victories over BIG EAST rivals this week. The senior led the league in blocks, totaling 18 in two matches, while ranking second in the conference in hitting percentage (.407). Against DePaul on Sunday, Schmitt’s career-best 13 blocks contributed to a single match program-best 22 blocks, besting the previous mark (21) which has stood since 2003.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Ava Martin, Creighton, Fr., Outside Hitter
As Creighton moved to 8-0 in conference play, Martin led all BIG EAST freshmen with 31 total kills. Against No. 16 Marquette, Martin produced 18 kills with 12 digs for her first career double-double. While hosting DePaul, the rookie recorded 13 kills, two digs, and two blocks to contribute to Creighton’s single match block record (22).
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Amina Shackleford, Butler, So., MB – in a 1-1 week, Shackelford totaled 24 kills, 15 digs, 7 blocks, and a service ace. Her performance ranked sixth and seventh amongst BIG EAST competitors in points (4.29) and kills (3.34), respectively.
Norah Sis, Creighton, So., OH – Sis fueled a Creighton offense which swept BIG EAST rivals this week. The sophomore recorded match-best kills against both Creighton (21) and DePaul (22), ranking third in the BIG EAST (4.30). Additionally, Sis stood second in points (5.00) and tenth in blocks (1.10).
Jenna Reitsma, Marquette, So., OH – in a 1-1 week, Reitsma led Marquette with a match-high 13 kills and four service aces in Sunday’s sweep of Xavier. She led the BIG EAST in service aces (0.62) this weekend, ranking seventh in points (4.00) and 10
th in kills (3.25)
Caylee Parker, UConn, Sr., OH —in a perfect 2-0 week, Parker ranked among the BIG EAST’s top ten in multiple categories, including hitting percentage (1
st, .490), points (5
th, 4.26), and service aces (7
th, 0.43) Against Villanova, Parker produced a match-best 16 kills with two service aces.
Delaney Hogan, XU, Jr., MB – in Xavier’s 1-1 week, Hogan totaled 25 kills, 20 of which came in Friday’s 3-1 victory over DePaul. On the week, the 2021 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year ranked fifth in kills (3.57) and ninth in points (3.93).
