BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Wilmer Cabrera, Jr., Butler, Sr., M (Bogota, Columbia)
Cabrera, Jr. was instrumental in leading Butler to a 3-1 win over Marquette, registering four points on a goal and two assists Friday night. After 30 scoreless minutes, Cabrera, Jr., broke the game open when he made a move around a defender and sent a left-footed shot just inside the right post for the 1-0 advantage. Out of the halftime break, the native of Bogota, Columbia, collected his first assist of the outing in the 53
rd minute when he connected with Palmer Ault to place Butler in front 2-0. After the Golden Eagles cut the deficit in half, Cabrera, Jr., once again set up Ault in space who buried home the Bulldogs’ third goal of the night. Overall, Cabrera, Jr., ranks eighth in the BIG EAST and second on the team with 11 points (4g, 3a) this season.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Ramzi Qawasmy, Providence, Gr., D (Landsdale, Pa.)
Never leaving the pitch in a defensive battle with DePaul Saturday night, Qawasmy anchored the Providence defense to its fourth shutout of the year and first conference win (1-0-2) in 2022. Limiting the Blue Demons to just two shots on goal and six shots overall, the Friars’ defense held strong to secure the victory. Qawasmy also made the difference on the offensive end when the captain had his number called after a penalty kick was awarded at the 73:03 mark. Qawasmy stepped up to the line and buried home the lone goal of the match.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Lukas Burns, Providence, Jr., GK (Cinnaminson, N.J.)
In a 1-0 week for the Friars, Burns stood tall in net on Saturday and posted his fourth complete shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over DePaul. Burns corralled both saves he faced in the outing to prevent the Blue Demons from finding the equalizer. In a trio of conference games, Burns ranks third in the BIG EAST with a .786 save percentage, while ranking tied for second with 11 saves.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Palmer Ault, Butler, Fr., F (Noblesville, Ind.)
Ault notched his third brace in as many matches, including the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over Marquette. He led the team with six total shots and three shots on goal, scoring in the 53rd and 86th minutes. In his first collegiate season, Ault leads the BIG EAST in points and goals scored. In three league games, he has registered four goals and eight points to lead the conference. Overall, Ault has eight goals and 18 points, averaging 2.0 points per game. Nationally, Ault leads all freshmen in both points and goals, while ranking tied for fourth in goals scored and tied for seventh in points.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Owen O’Malley, Creighton, So., M
O’Malley registered the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over Villanova Saturday. After nearly earning an assist off a corner, the initial shot attempt was saved before the sophomore corralled the ball inside the six-yard-box and buried home his sixth goal of the year.
Ryan Schewe, Georgetown, Jr., GK
Making just his third start in goal for the Hoyas, Schewe improved to 2-0-0, leading Georgetown to a win over Bowling Green, 1-0, Saturday afternoon. In the outing Schewe made a save on all three of the shots he faced, improving his conference leading save percentage to 0.929 in 225:00 minutes on the pitch.
Andrea Borg, Seton Hall, Sr., F
Borg scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute of Seton Hall's 2-1 win over St. John's on Saturday night, which helped the Pirates stay unbeaten (1-0-2) in BIG EAST play. Borg also played a key role in the opening goal of the match, as his cross into the box deflected off a St. John's defender for an own goal.
Cole Jensen, Xavier, R-Jr., GK
Helped No. 18 Xavier post a 1-0 win over UConn on Saturday and remain unbeaten (7-0-3, 1-0-2 BIG EAST) on the year. Making a save in the outing, Jensen registered his sixth shutout of the season. Yet to leave the pitch in the opening 10 games of the season, Jensen ranks among the top-10 in multiple national rankings, including save percentage (9th, 0.865), goals against average (t7th, 0.50) and shutouts (t2nd, 6).
Cameron Wheeler, Xavier, Gr., M
Scored the first game-winning goal of his collegiate career, leading Xavier past UConn, 1-0, on Saturday. Wheeler now has two goals this season.
