NEW YORK – Connecticut’s Adama Sanogo and Alex Karaban are repeat winners in the men’s basketball weekly honors. Sanogo is the BIG EAST Player of the Week and Karaban is the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Both players helped the undefeated Huskies to three wins last week. The Huskies are 5-0 for the season.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Adama Sanogo, Connecticut, F, Jr. – Sanogo averaged 20.3 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 61.1 percent from the field in the three Husky victories. He had 26 points in an 86-50 win against Delaware State and 24 points in a 95-60 victory over UNC-Wilmington. Sanogo leads the BIG EAST in scoring with a 21.4 average.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Alex Karaban, Connecticut, F, R-Fr. – Karaban scored in double figures in each of the three UConn victories. For the week, he averaged 10.7 points and 3.3 rebounds. The freshman shot 52.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Simas Lukosius, Butler, G, So. – Averaged 15.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists in a 2-1 week. Shot 53 percent from the field and 3-point range.
Ryan Kalkbrenner, Creighton, C, Jr. – Made 15-of-16 (.938) from the field in a 2-0 week. Averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots in wins over Holy Cross (94-65) and UC-Riverside (80-51).
Joel Soriano, St. John’s, C, Sr. – Averaged 13.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in a 2-0 week. In a win against Nebraska (70-50), had 17 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.
Eric Dixon, Villanova, F, Sr. – Averaged 20.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Posted game highs of 24 points and nine rebounds in a loss at Michigan State (73-71).
Zach Freemantle, Xavier, F, Sr. – In a 1-1 week, averaged 15.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.5 blocks. Had a triple-double with 15 points, 13 boards and 10 assists against Fairfield (78-65). Had 15 points in loss to Indiana (81-79).
