NEW YORK (Aug. 16, 2023) – The BIG EAST Conference announced the dates and sites of the Olympic sports championships for the 2023-24 academic year, including an expanded field for the men’s soccer tournament. Additionally, the BIG EAST has announced that television partner FOX Sports will feature three regular season events on FS1 this fall, in addition to championship coverage. All 22 BIG EAST Championships, including the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments, are Presented by JEEP.
Starting in early September, FS1 will televise a non-conference in-state rivalry volleyball match. On Wednesday, Sept. 13, defending BIG EAST regular season champion Marquette hosts Wisconsin at Fiserv Forum at 8 p.m. ET, in what is expected to be a top-25 showdown.
Four days later, coverage will continue in Milwaukee with Marquette volleyball welcoming Oregon to the Al McGuire Center, with the match scheduled for 2 p.m. on FS1. Marquette and Wisconsin both advanced to the Third Round of the 2022 NCAA Volleyball Championship, while Oregon is coming off a trip to the Quarterfinals.
A rematch of the 2022 BIG EAST women’s soccer title game is also scheduled to air on FS1 with Xavier hosting Georgetown on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
Postseason coverage begins on FS1 on Sunday, Nov. 5, with the women’s soccer title game scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The format of the BIG EAST women’s soccer championship will have the No. 3 seed hosting the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed hosting the No. 5 seed in the first round on Sunday, Oct. 29. The semifinals and championship game will return to the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md., for the second straight year. The semifinals will take place on Thursday, Nov. 2.
The BIG EAST men’s soccer championship format will expand to eight teams for the first time since realignment. In November of 2022, the conference announced the addition of a new affiliate member, The University of Akron, and a new men’s soccer alignment consisting of 12 teams and a pair of divisions. The East Division consists of Connecticut, Georgetown, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Villanova. The Midwest Division will include Akron, Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Marquette and Xavier.
Over an eight-match conference season, the team with the highest overall conference points will secure the No. 1 seed, while the team in the opposite division with the highest conference point total will secure the No. 2 seed. The remaining six seeds, regardless of division, will be determined by conference points. Quarterfinal action will get underway on Saturday, Nov. 4, with the top four seeds hosting matches. The semifinals will return to the Maryland SoccerPlex on Thursday, Nov. 9. FOX Sports will then cover the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 12; network and start time will be announced at a later date.
The 2023 Field Hockey Championship will be hosted by Temple at Howarth Field in Philadelphia. The top four seeds will compete in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 3, while the championship will be held on Sunday, Nov. 5. A start time will be announced at a later date.
The first round and semifinals of both the men’s and women’s soccer championships, along with the semifinals and championship for field hockey will stream on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports (BEDN). Overall, approximately 300 BIG EAST events will stream on BEDN and nearly 700 events on FloSports this year.
The volleyball championship will be played at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, hosted by Marquette. Six teams will compete for a BIG EAST title, with the top-two seeds earning a first-round bye. First round action will begin Wednesday, Nov. 22 with the No. 3 seed and No. 6 seed squaring off, along with the No. 4 seed taking on the No. 5 seed. The pair of winners will advance to the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 24 and the opening four matchups will stream live on BEDN. The championship game will then air on FS2 on Saturday, Nov. 25. A start time will be announced at a later date.
The BIG EAST Cross-Country Championships will be hosted by Marquette at the Wayne Dannehl Course in Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 28. The men’s and women’s races will stream on BEDN.
For the winter, the Indoor Track & Field Championships will return to the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center in Chicago and be hosted by DePaul for the third consecutive year on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24. The BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships will head to IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. The championships will take place Wednesday, Feb. 28 through Saturday, March 2. Both championships will stream on BEDN
The spring postseason events kick off with the men’s and women’s tennis championships starting Thursday, April 18 and finishing on Sunday, April 21 in Cayce, S.C., at the Cayce Tennis Center. It will be the eighth consecutive year at Cayce. The women’s golf championship will take place simultaneously, Saturday, April 20 through April 22 at Callawassie Island in Okatie, S.C. The men’s golf championship follows, going Saturday, April 27 through Monday, April 29 at Riverton Pointe Country Club in Hardeeville, S.C.
Both the men’s and women’s lacrosse championships will be held Thursday, May 2 and Saturday, May. 4 The men’s lacrosse championship will be hosted by Villanova at Villanova Stadium, while the women’s lacrosse championship will be hosted by Xavier at Corcoran Field.
The outdoor track & field championships return to Villanova, Pa., for the second consecutive year. Villanova will host the conference meet, which will take place Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11 at Villanova Stadium. It will mark the 25th time the Wildcats will host both the men’s and women’s championships simultaneously. Villanova also hosted the men’s championship in 1981 and 1982.
The softball championship will take place on the campus of Providence College at Glay Field. The six-team championship will begin Wednesday May 8, with the title game scheduled for Saturday, May 11.
Baseball returns to Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio for the sixth time, co-hosted by Xavier on Memorial Day weekend, Wednesday, May 22 through Saturday, May 25.
The spring Olympic Sports TV schedule will be released this winter.
