Four Schools Receive #BIGEASTwlax Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Attacker of the Week
Kate Shaffer, Connecticut, Gr., A
Shaffer had an excellent week on the offensive end for UConn, totaling 14 points across two games. The graduate attacker put on the performance of the season in the Huskies’ 21-11 win over Butler on Saturday, netting five goals while dishing out six assists to help secure the victory. Her 11 total points in the matchup were the most by any BIG EAST player in a game all season, while her six assists were also a single-game best for the conference this year. She also added four draw controls and two ground balls for the week.
 
BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week
Tatum Geist, Georgetown, Sr., M
Geist earns Midfielder of the Week honors following an impressive effort in Georgetown’s commanding 18-7 victory over Monmouth on Saturday. The senior recorded a hat-trick along with a game-high five ground balls, adding one caused turnover as well. The Hoyas have now won four consecutive games, with Geist recording at least two scores in each victory over that stretch.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Kaitlyn Huber, Marquette, Sr., D
Huber helped lead the charge on a spectacular defensive performance by Marquette in their 21-4 win against Xavier on Saturday. The senior stymied opponent attacks, helping hold the Musketeers to just 11 total shots and seven shots on goal, while tallying three ground balls herself on the back end. The Golden Eagles’ four goals allowed were the least given up by any BIG EAST team in a conference game this season.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Sophia Knoblock, Butler, Fr., A
Knoblock posted a career day in Butler’s loss to UConn on Saturday, tying a team-high with four goals scored. Her goal and point total marked career-bests, while she also added a ground ball in the matchup.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Trinity McPherson, Denver, Gr., Dled Denver with six wins in the draw circle, while adding two ground balls and two caused turnovers in an 11-8 victory over Villanova on Saturday
Kylie Hazen, Georgetown, Sr., A – had a six-point effort in Georgetown’s 18-7 win over Monmouth on Saturday, recording three goals, three assists, one ground ball and one caused turnover
Meg Bireley, Marquette, Jr., A – tallied six goals and an assist on 11 shots in Marquette’s 21-4 win over Xavier on Saturday; is tied for fifth nationally with 63 goals this season
