Georgetown’s Parker Stokes Named BIG EAST Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

NEW YORK (Aug. 27, 2024) - Georgetown track and field standout and national champion Parker Stokes was named the BIG EAST Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced on Tuesday. Stokes will receive a $4,000 scholarship, which may be applied to graduate or professional studies. The selection was made by the Conference’s Academic Affairs Committee.

Graduating with a Master of Science in management and business administration from the prestigious McDonough School of Business, Bowen boasted a 3.374 graduate GPA.

Stokes is the fourth men’s scholar-athlete from Georgetown, and the third in as many seasons, as soccer standout Dante Polvara collected the honor in 2022, and lacrosse standout Will Bowen received the award in 2023. Alongside fellow Hoya Julia Leas, announced as the 2024 BIG EAST Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the duo becomes the seventh and eighth Georgetown recipients and it marks just the eighth time in league history that one school has swept the award.

A four-time All-American in the Steeplechase (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024), Stokes captured the 2024 Outdoor Steeplechase NCAA Championship. Overall, he is a nine-time BIG EAST Champion (2022 Indoor Mile; 2024, 2023, 2022 Indoor 4x800m; 2023, 2022, 2021 Outdoor Steeplechase; 2024, 2022 Outdoor 4x800m).

The Conference also announced the male winners of the 2023-24 BIG EAST Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships. Each institutional winner receives $2,000 toward graduate studies.
