NEW YORK – Connecticut and Georgetown runners earned BIG EAST Cross Country weekly honors with outstanding performances at the Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State. Chloe Thomas of UConn won the women’s race and Lucas Guerra of Georgetown took fourth place on the men’s side.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Chloe Thomas, Connecticut, Sr.
Thomas won the Spiked Shoe Invitational with a time of 19:51.8 over the 6K distance. She finished 12 seconds faster than the rest of the field while posting the fourth fastest time in the history of the Blue-White Golf Course. With only a one-second lead at the 4800M mark, Thomas pulled away from the field to claim her victory. The Huskies finished fourth in the team standings.
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Lucas Guerra, Georgetown, Sr.
Guerra finished fourth in a field of 197 runners at the Spiked Shoe Invitational with an 8K time of 24:58.3. He also helped the Hoyas finish second in the team standings, behind only No. 22 ranked Syracuse.

Seton Hall won the Osprey Open Championship at Stockton University. Junior Honey Strosnider paced the Pirates, grabbing first place with a time of 22:21.96. The Hall had five runners among the top 10.
Men’s Notes – In his
Butler debut, Austin Gabay took fifth place at the Fighting Illini Big Ten Preview with an 8K time of 23:48.5. He is a graduate transfer from Duke. The Bulldogs finished fourth in the team standings…Also for
Georgetown, sophomore Birhanu Harriman finished fifth just behind teammate Guerra.
National Polls – Two BIG EAST men’s teams and two women’s squads are among the top 30 in the latest USTFCCCA Polls. On the women’s side, Providence is ranked 10th with Georgetown 15
th. For the men, Butler is No. 11 and Villanova is No. 17. Georgetown is receiving votes.
