BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Darius Brown, DePaul, Sr.
Brown broke his own school record in the 60m hurdles with a 7.61-second prelim time before going on to win gold at the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan. 25. He leads the BIG EAST for this event and is eighth in the country.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jenna Zydanowicz, UConn, Gr.
Zydanowicz ran the mile in 4:38.30 at the Penn 10 Elite Meet on Jan. 25. She took third place at the event and is third in the conference. Her time was the second-fastest mile time in UConn women’s track and field history.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Marc Morrison, UConn, Sr.
Morrison broke a UConn all-time school record at the Penn 10 Elite Meet, jumping 7.86m to win the long jump event by .22m over the next closest competition. This put him first in the conference for this event.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Jamora Alves, St. John’s, Jr.
Alves placed first in the open weight throw at the Dr. Sander Scorcher on Jan. 24. The junior registered a career-best toss of 16.68 meters in the event. She also earned a bronze medal in the shot put with a personal-record throw of 15.23 meters, putting her second in the BIG EAST for this event.
Notable Performance
- Villanova’s Marco Langon placed first in the mile at the Penn 10 Elite Meet with a time of 3:54.60. This put him second in the BIG EAST and seventh in the country this season.
- St. John’s runner Chinenye Onuorah posted a finishing time of 55.58 seconds in the 400-meter invitational at the Dr. Sander Scorcher. She is first in the conference for this event.
- DePaul’s Jaiah Hopf placed first in the long jump (6.09m) at the Notre Dame Invitational.
