Providence, Seton Hall Garner BIG EAST Cross Country Weekly Honors

NEW YORK – Providence's Níamh O'Mahony and Seton Hall's Aakash Arumugam earned BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.  

On Oct. 10, O'Mahony became the 12th Friar - and first since 2001 - to capture the individual title at the New England Championship.  Arumugam placed second individually, helping lead the Pirates to its first-ever team title at the Metropolitan Championship.

O'Mahony covered the 5K course in a time of 17:08.18, finishing first at the New England Championship in Hopkinton, N.H.  She led three Friars among the top 10 in the race, helping guide Providence to its 12th New England team crown in program history.  O'Mahony was the first Providence runner since 2001 to win the individual New England title.

Aakash Arumugam, Seton Hall, So.

Arumugam placed second at the Metropolitan Championship, held in Newark, N.J.  The sophomore clocked 24:29 for the 8K race, leading Seton Hall to its first-ever Metropolitan team title.  It marked the fourth straight meet that Arumugam was SHU's top finisher, leading three Pirates among the top 10 of the race.

Women's NotesProvidence was first among the 24-team field at the New England Championship, held in Hopkinton, N.H... the Friars placed three runners in the top 10 en route to scoring 67 points...Seton Hall placed second - two points short of the team title - at the Metropolitan Championship...the Pirates were led by Caitlin Fahy and Honey Strosnider, who finished together in second and third place in a time of 17:39...St. John's' Attoya Harvey clocked a personal-best 18:25 for 5K at the Metropolitan Championship, finishing 15th overall while dropping more than two minutes off her previous PR...the Red Storm was fourth as a team

Men's Notes – Three Pirates finished in the top 10 of the Metropolitan Championship, helping guide Seton Hall to its first-ever Met title - and the program's first victory since the 2023 Dutchmen Invitational...SHU's Logan Brunozzi was third (24:43), while Stephen Beaman was seventh (25:05)...Providence's Grady Satterfield was one of four Friars to compete at the New England Championship on Oct. 10 in Hopkinton, N.H., finishing 52nd in a time of 25:37.47 for the 8K course.

In The Polls – The next regional and national polls are set to be released on Monday, Oct. 20 and Tuesday, Oct. 21, respectively.  Currently, two BIG EAST men's teams and two women's squads are among the top 30 on the 2025 national poll, released on Oct. 7.  For the men, Butler is No. 12 and Georgetown is No. 24, while Villanova is receiving votes. On the women's side, Villanova checks in at No. 19, followed by Georgetown at No. 22, and Providence at No. 28.

Several BIG EAST teams are featured among the regional rankings, released on Oct. 6.  For the women, Providence ranks second in the Northeast, followed by Connecticut in fourth.  Villanova and Georgetown are third and fourth, respectively, in the Mid-Atlantic, while Xavier is 14th in the Great Lakes.  On the men's rankings, Georgetown and Villanova are second and fifth, respectively in the Mid-Atlantic, while Butler sits in third in the Great Lakes. Providence is seventh in the Northeast.
