NEW YORK – The three-way tie for first place in the BIG EAST women’s soccer standings was trimmed down to one, Butler, after a full day of action on Sunday. The Bulldogs beat UConn 3-0 to break free from the pack, while Xavier and Marquette, who beat Creighton and Seton Hall, respectively, moved into a tie for second place. No. 23 Georgetown and Providence played to a 1-1 draw on national television, while DePaul claimed its first BIG EAST win of the season, thwarting Villanova’s comeback bid. Five more matches are on the docket for Thursday, including a rematch of the spring 2021 title game between the Hoyas and Bulldogs at 3 p.m. ET. All five matches will stream live on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi, available on FloSports.
Providence 1, #23 Georgetown 1 (2OT)
In a match nationally televised on FS1, the Friars (6-3-2, 1-1-1 BIG EAST) and Hoyas (6-0-6, 2-0-2) battled to a 1-1 draw. Julia Leas got Georgetown on the board first in the 61
st minute before Gillian Kenney scored the equalizer in the 70
th. Emma Bodmer finished with three saves for Providence, while Allie Augur posted two stops for the Hoyas. GU finished with a 12-10 advantage in shots and 11-3 lead in corner kicks, including a 9-1 margin between the second half and both overtime frames.

Xavier 2, Creighton 0
Hayley Jakovich’s first goal of the year came less than five minutes into the contest to give Xavier (10-1-1, 3-1-0) the early advantage. Shelby Sallee added an insurance score in the 68
th, sparking the Musketeers to their third win in league play and 10
th of the season overall. Keelan Terrell had seven saves for Creighton (6-5-2, 0-3-1), but the Bluejays were outshot 17-4 on the afternoon. Olivia Jenkins collected two saves with no goals against to move to 10-1-1 on the season. Her 10 wins are a new program record for wins in a single season for a Xavier goalkeeper.

Butler moved into the solo spot in first place in the BIG EAST standings with a shutout home win over UConn on Sunday. The Bulldogs (10-1-1, 3-0-1) saw three different players score, including Becky Dean’s first of the season which proved to be the game winner. Katie Soderstrom had two assists on the afternoon, as Butler outshot UConn 11-5. Emma Martin earned the win with two saves. UConn’s Kaitlyn Mahoney had four saves, while Jada Konte and Lucy Cappadona each had two shots.

DePaul 3, Villanova 2
DePaul claimed its first BIG EAST win of the season behind three first-half Morgan Turner goals. With the Blue Demons (4-7-0, 1-2-0) on the attack from the get-go, Turner found the back of the net three times in the game's first 30 minutes. Turner now has 29 goals in her DePaul career and has moved into the top-five of all-time goal scorers in program history. The Blue Demon forward now sits in fourth place in the all-time ranks. Villanova (6-6-0, 0-4-0) nearly clawed all the way back into the contest as Niki Molina scored in the 53
rd and Lauren Belcuore got the Wildcats within one in the 80
th, but time ran out for them at Wish Field.

Marquette (7-4-0, 3-1-0) won its third consecutive BIG EAST match and second straight in shutout fashion, blanking the visiting Pirates (6-6-0, 1-3-0) at Valley Fields. Hailey Block provided the game’s lone score in the 69
th minute, while Mikki Easter claimed her second straight shutout victory with three saves for the Golden Eagles. Marquette outshot Seton Hall 17-8 and held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks. Grace Gordon had five saves for The Hall.
