BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Davis Smith, Providence, Grad Student, F (Amerst, Mass.)
After missing last spring, Providence grad student forward Davis Smith kicked off the opening weekend of fall 2021 with a league-best five points on two goals and one assist. Smith helped the Friars to a 3-0 victory over then-No. 23 Fordham on Friday night scoring the security goal in the 85th minute unassisted. Smith came off the bench to play 61 minutes as he peppered the Rams net with six shots, three on goal. On Sunday, Smith was moved to the starting 11. He scored the fourth goal against Saint Peter’s and assisted the second as the Friars won 6-2.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Kieran Sargeant, Georgetown, Fr., D (League City, Texas)
Georgetown freshman back Kieran Sargeant helped the Hoyas to a 2-0-0 weekend with a 2-1 win over UC Irvine on Friday morning and a 4-0 over then-No. 23 Fordham on Sunday. Coming off the bench, Sargeant played 49 key minutes against UC Irvine helping hold the Anteaters to just three shots, one shot on goal. On Sunday, Sargeant helped hold the Rams scoreless with just eight shots, three on goal. Sargeant also tallied the third goal in the win over the ranked Rams and assisted the game-winner in the 62nd minute against UCI.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Matthew Rosenberg, Xavier, Grad Student, GK (Manalapan, N.J.)
Xavier grad student Matthew Rosenberg helped the Musketeers go 2-0-0 in the opening weekend as he started in both matches logging 90 minutes in each contest. Rosenberg posted his first shutout of the season against Eastern Illinois on Friday night, his 17th career shutout. On Sunday, Xavier limited IUPUI to only one goal in a 3-1, making Rosenberg’s opening weekend goals against average 0.50 goals-against average. Rosenberg made two saves for the weekend.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Edrey Caceres, Marquette, Fr., M
Marquette freshman midfielder Edrey Caceres collected four points in his first two collegiate matches, accounting for a goal and a pair of assists in home wins over Green Bay (2-0) and SIUE (4-3). Caceres assisted on Harvey Read’s game-winner in the opener over the Phoenix and the due teamed up for another goal against the Cougars. He scored his first collegiate goal against SIUE to give Marquette a 3-2 advantage in the eventual 4-3 win. Caceres started both games.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Gabriel Gjergji, Butler, Sr., GK
Led the Bulldogs to a shutout draw, guiding a defense that allowed only 8 shots through 110 minutes of play. Butler played the final 9 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods a man down. Gjergji saved the only shot on goal to preserve the draw.
Dante Polvara, Georgetown, Jr., M
Polvara helped the fifth-ranked Hoyas to a 2-0-0 weekend as he scored a goal and assisted another in a 4-0 victory over No. 23 Fordham on Sunday. The junior captain had four shots on goal in the 2-1 win over UC Irvine, but did not connect.
Andreas Nota, Seton Hall, Grad Student, GK
Picked up his first clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Temple, his 11th career shutout as a Pirate. Nota also made two saves.
Anthony Dragisics, Villanova, Jr., D
Dragisics played all 90 minutes as an outside back and made the save of the game in the 60th minute by sliding across an open goal to block a Rider goal and preserve a 2-0 win for the Wildcats. Rider was limited to 13 shots, one on goal.
Jerome Jolly, Xavier, So., M
Jolly scored both game-winning goals for the Musketeers. He came of the bench to score in the 80th minute off his own corner kick against Eastern Illinois. He also came off the bench against IUPUI scoring the eventual game-winner in the 41st minute.
