Creighton and Marquette Take Home Latest #BEfútbol Weekly Honors

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Jackson Castro, Creighton, So., M (Plano, Texas)
In an 0-0-2 week for Creighton, Castro scored two of the Bluejays’ three goals, while playing a key role in both matches. Opening the week against San Diego State, Castro gave Creighton a 1-0 lead just 37.5 seconds into the match, as the Bluejays collected a 2-2 draw on Monday, Sep. 5. Friday night, Creighton welcomed second-ranked Stanford to Morrison Stadium. Trailing 1-0 through the opening 74 minutes, Castro buried the equalizer in the 1-1 tie.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Alex Mirsberger, Marquette, Sr., D (Brookfield, Wis.)
Facing Big Ten foe Michigan Friday night, Mirsberger anchored Marquette’s defense to a 3-0 victory, the Golden Eagles second consecutive shutout win. He was part of a defensive unit that held the Wolverines to just nine shots in the contest and only four on goal. He also made an impact on the offensive end registering three shots and tallying the second goal of the contest in the 57th minute.

BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Chandler Hallwood, Marquette, Jr., GK (Halifax, England)
With just one goal against in Marquette’s current three-match winning streak, including back-to-back shutouts, Hallwood once again acted as a brick wall on Friday denying every scoring opportunity Michigan sent his way. The junior goalkeeper collected three saves in the full 90 minutes of action as the Golden Eagles improved to 3-1-0 as a team.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Ben Foulks, Creighton, Fr., D (San Diego, Calif.)
Foulks played a pivotal role in Creighton’s equalizer against No. 2 Stanford in the 74th minute. He one touched a pass from senior Charles Auguste to Castro as the Bluejays punctured Stanford’s defense to earn the 1-1 draw.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Charles Auguste, Creighton, Sr., D
Auguste earned an assist on the Bluejays’ goal against No. 2 Stanford, part of three touches that helped Creighton post a 1-1 draw with the Cardinal. After Stanford scored in the opening minute of the game, Auguste and the rest of the Bluejay defense held the Stanford attack at bay, allowing just three corner kicks.
Abdoul Karim Pare, Marquette, So., F
In Marquette’s 3-0 win over Michigan on Friday night, Pare accounted for two of the team’s three goals, including the game-winner in the 53rd minute. Overall, he totaled four shots and 61 minutes on the pitch.
Lyam MacKinnon, Villanova, Sr., F
MacKinnon scored two goals in a 4-0 win over Northwestern on Sept. 5, as Villanova went 1-1 on the week. In the pair of outings, the senior forward registered seven shots.
Cole Jensen, Xavier, RJr., GK
Leading the charge in Xavier’s 1-0 win over Pacific, Jensen collected his NCAA leading fourth shutout of the season, making a save Friday night. Tied with three other Division I goalkeepers with four shutouts in five outings, he also lowered his goals against average to 0.20, as Xavier (4-0-1) remained unbeaten.
Makel Rasheed, Xavier, Sr., D/M
Rasheed logged 90 minutes of action on the back line against Pacific, as the Xavier defense posted its fourth shutout in 2022. Overall, the Musketeers limited the Tigers to only four shots (one on goal) in the match.
