GU will head to State College, Pennsylvania for round two of the championships where they will face number six-seeded St. Louis University.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"This was a very tough game against a good team. This team is very well coached, and they have a lot of wins this year with a lot of key players. Those players are always dangerous especially on set pieces which we knew about but give credit to their number 14 who got their goal and put us on our heels. We were not at our best in the first half and then we changed some things at halftime, specifically our shape and I think the girls just realized if they didn't bring more energy the season would be over. The energy they brought in the second half was exceptional as well as overtime and in the second half we outshot them 16-0 and needless to say goals turn games. It started with our first goal from
Brianne Riley, and it was a great delivery from
Tatum Lenain. The second goal in overtime was spectacular as
Maja Lardner got down the left side and whipped a great ball into
Natalie Means who got across her defender to finish it. We knew it was going to be tough as there are no easy games in the NCAA Championships as it is lose and go home. All credit to Old Dominion they were every bit the team we thought they would be, and we are just happy to be moving on to the next round."
