NEW YORK –  The bracket for the 2023 BIG EAST Men’s Lacrosse Championship presented by Jeep was solidified Saturday afternoon. Friday night, a pair of matchups locked up the top-three seeds and a second consecutive outright regular season title for Georgetown.

In a game to decide the top seed in the tournament, No. 7/8 Georgetown welcomed No. 10/11 Villanova to Cooper Field in the regular season finale. After opening the season 0-3, Georgetown won its 10 consecutive game Friday night, moving past the Wildcats 12-8 in front of its home crowd. The win secured the second straight outright BIG EAST regular season title for the Hoyas and the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament. Georgetown enters the Championship looking to secure its fifth consecutive BIG EAST title.

In Friday night’s tilt, Georgetown (10-3, 5-0 BIG EAST) was once again led by Tucker Dordevic, who notched four goals in the triumph, while teammate Graham Bundy Jr., chipped in three. Villanova (10-4, 3-2 BE) was led by Patrick Daly’s three goals and four points, while Matt Campbell had a goal and two assists.

In the latter portion of Friday’s two-game slate, Marquette hosted No. 11/10 Denver at Valley Fields in Milwaukee. In a back-and-forth affair, the Pioneers extended their winning streak to five games, as Stephen Avery found the back of the net on Denver’s second possession of overtime to earn a 15-14 win. The win locked up the No. 2 seed for the Pioneers after capping the regular season 9-4 (4-1 BE).

Shortly after Marquette evened the score at 11-11 midway through the third quarter, Denver tallied three consecutive goals to take its largest lead of the game, 14-11, with 11:59 remaining in regulation. The Golden Eagles responded with three-straight of their own to end regulation, including a Jake Stegman goal with just 11 seconds to go to tie things up and send the game to overtime. Avery then put the game away with the golden goal 2:34 into extra time.

In Saturday’s lone contest, Providence took care of business in overtime against St. John’s, 12-11, and secured the fourth and final seed in the BIG EAST Championship.

After the Red Storm took an early 4-0 lead in the opening frame, Providence stormed back to even things up at halftime 7-7. Out of the locker room, the teams continued to go back and forth resulting in an overtime affair. In overtime, Matt Grillo beat the St. John’s defense and buried it into the back of the net to seal the victory.

Following the result, Marquette, Providence and St. John’s each cap the conference season at 1-4, with Providence earning the three-way tiebreaker due to goal differential and a head-to-head victory over Marquette.
